When we that have traversed the length and bridth of Southern Nigerian states tell our Yoruba Ronu brothers this sad truth, they call us names and say the IGR of Lagos is 500 trillion and that of Ogun state is 400 trillion which does not translate to visible development in the Southwest states.

I said this sometime last week that aside State capitals in Yoruba states and Lagos, the rest of Yoruba land is desolate and abandoned to rot away while Fulani herdsmen terrorists and land grabbers are busy grabbing Yoruba hinterlands as Yorubas brag, boast and party away in Lagos and London thinking all is well.

All the focus of Yorubas is Lagos this and that, and how to stop Igbos from progressing in Lagos even when Igbos have done so much in contributing to the development of Lagos, yet Yoruba people's major headache in Nigeria is to stop Igbos from succeeding using political gangup.

Go to the various Yoruba villages where most of them came from, they have abandoned it once they get to the city just like Bola Tinubu abandoned Iragbiji his original hometown to be claiming city boy in Lagos where he was adopted by Madam Abibat.

Yorubas wake up oh, Igbos are not your enemies, all we Igbos want is progress and prosperity for all, and a Nigeria built on merit, equity, fairness, justice and not on which tribe you come from or the religion you believe in.

If una like continue to hate on Igbos and continue to focus on how to always outshine Igbos in national politics while your hometowns rot away and Fulani herdsmen take over your towns, at the end, una eyes go clear.

Dr. Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser to The President on Economic Matters (Office of the Vice President) has advocated the need for the urgent creation of the South West Development Commission.

President Bola Tinubu last week signed into law bills creating the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

In a post on his Facebook page, Fasua said aside the state capitals in the South-West that look beautiful, other parts of the region are depressing.

He also frowned at the popular slang 'Ebi n Pawa ( We Are Hungry) saying it shouldn't be a popular cliche in the South-West.

"If i count how many times they've given out rice and cash and how many initiatives to assuage poverty? Seems it's so deep among some people. SW people must be careful lest we become the symbols of poverty and hunger".

"Ebinpawa should not be a fad. Na we sabi English. Na we sabi go London. Rather than develop our lands and villages, we will invest in America, and we run away from ourselves. Thats what we see today".

"They have approved South East Devt Commission. go to south east and see where they are already. apart from state capitals, the rest of southwest looks depressing. we need SOUTH WEST DEVT COMMISSION urgently too. No pride about it".

So you are no longer the most developed region in Nigeria?
So all the noise about your area being developed is a hoax?
What of the DAWN COMMISSION?

But those of us who travel know the truth.. remove Lagos, the South West is absolutely NOTHING to write home about. Even ibadan that was solely yoruba developed is a fucking eyesore! 🤢

They all run to Lagos and claim it as solely yoruba's.. yet every Christmas Lagos becomes empty. 😂

I always tire when I talk with Yoruba people and they always think their region is the best in Nigeria,to the average Yoruba man the rest of Nigeria is just bush and huts, only Lagos and southwest is where human beings live, but I noticed the travelled ones know the better

I remember when my friend wanted to come with me for my grandfather’s burial,he was asking me if we had light,tv etc in my town
He later came and refused to leave
They said 1 ronu escorted his friend to a burial in Nnewi and kept asking when they will go to their main village while his friend kept telling him “this is my only village”

This man is speaking the truth. I am passionately and proudly Yoruba. Most, especially IPOB louts, can testify to that here.

Nonetheless, I am about human progress, first and foremost, before any blind allegiance to ethnicity. Yorubas need to do more, in terms of joint political and administrative cooperation, to develop our hinterlands.

The condition of most of our rural areas and villages is deplorable and what the author of the article says, shown below, is entirely correct.

DAWN initiative addressed this issue and provided a workable template to develop the entire SW as one geographical zone. Why we abandoned DAWN's well-researched suggestion remains a mystery to me.
Simple duplication. We don't need a thousand commissions to fix each regions. How far NDDC? I'm sure the Niger-delta is still in a sorry state.
They had to stop Chief Awolowo. One man oh! A moving train. See what he did for us even as an opposition. These deplorable parts of SW have like 500 leaders with power in different capacities, but no real impact. Governors, representatives, e t.c They abandoned DAWN because they are not visionaries. They have no idea about leadership at this level. Them sabi politick and win election, then what next? Aside Maybe GSM, which other governor stands out? Even Fashola and Ambode made more impact here in Lagos then sanwo-olu.

The south east is where it is today not because of the recently established SEDC or government, but individual efforts. Is he expecting the South West Development Commission to embark on demolition and rebuilding of houses in those areas. The major eyesore are the old houses which can only change when there is extra money in the hands of the people. I reside in one of the capitals (Akure), and it's a surprise to even see some houses built with mud, just plastered with cement.
What’s wrong with that?

You can build a beautiful house ENTIRELY with mud.

It is colonial programming that makes you think mud is inferior for building.

Then tell your boss PBAT to sign South West Development Commission Bill into law so we can build our region alongside others.. failure to do that will make me forever regret supporting the man.

I have been to all the South Western State Capitals and I can tell you for a fact that we still have a very long way to go.. unlike NDDC that Niger Delta politicians are using to embezzle money, I have the conviction that SWDC will contribute meaningfully to the development of South West region.

We are naturally peaceful with mindset of progress.. all we need is to have that enabler to turn fortunes of the South West around for the better.
I was at the Osun-Osogbo festival venue, visited many historical sites in Yorubaland and I felt bad due to the neglect I witnessed. We need to develop our cities abeg.

I agree. I think the SW still needs to get her most innovate and most productive solutions-providers into office as Governors.

That will make a massive difference in the fortunes of States and, by extension, the whole SW region.

I hear Tunji-Ojo wants to be governor of Ondo in future. Such an ambition I will support passionately as he is showing capacity for innovative thinking and hardwork plus the talent for productive multi-tasking with the dexterity to apply directly needed solutions.

SW still needs a much better generation of leaders. Dapo Abiodun and Davido's Uncle, for example, have no business being Governors.

Indeed. It isn't rocket science but the major issue is that the monetisation of politics, to the detriment of meritorious emergence of the best leaders, is still a big issue in the SW.

Known/famous name, wealth and societal status should not be criteria for Parties to use in deciding who to give sell their Governship ticket to.

It has created a culture whereby those not meritoriously fit to be Governor, Like Adeleke and Dapo Abiodun, consistently trash other far better candidate to emerge governors of their respective States.

This is the major problem the SW is facing. If we had a truly meritocratic system in place, that enabled the best to be Governors of SW States, then we do not need a development commision that will be a waste of time, money and effort when fit Governors can simply partner themselves homogeneously to define the SW a a nation within a nation.

This is just the beginning of a new era for the South West.

With Tinubu at the helm, we are bound to see transformation even in the most overlooked areas. Let’s give our president the chance to turn the tide, because every nook and cranny deserves a facelift!

The real change starts now!

That is a gauranteed template for the consistent and interdependent development of every nook and cranny of the SW.

Bro, let's be honest. No region needs a development commission, glorified duplication of roles in my opinion, to secure development if the right leaders were elected into office to begin with. What has the NDDC achieved for the SS to date?

What duplication of offices and effort did Awolowo engage in when he achieved so much for the SW in the past with others partnering him?

The author of the article has already identified the problem. The most meritoriously fit of candidates have fled the house and left it to rodents we all know can only destroy rather than build anything.

It is left to all regions of Nigeria to try and find a way to support the best into office as a way of developing Nigeria optimally.
