A bag of rice at 40k when they are proposing 70k as wage. So over 50% of salary just to buy rice? A piece of yam is how much again? Full tank of fuel is how much again? Ordinary malaria treatment is how much again? And 70k for an entire month is ideal for a full human?

I thought minimum wage should at least at minimum sort the beneficial out for the month including minimum rent, food, clothing and the likes.

Nobody is paying any price differential, open the damn border let food be imported to disgrace and curb the excesses of our farmers and middle men. Prices of rice and other food items are not that high even across border, a bag of rice across those border is still less than 20k, once it croses into Nigeria the govt impose tax or tarrif of 30k per bag

Somebody is paying the difference in price and that is no other person but the government. That means government is subsidising the price for you to buy it at 40k.
Government is paying this subsidy with borrowed money and this will worsen Nigerian debt and the naira will fall or devalued further.
This can be done temporarily to douse the planned protest. It will bring a bugger problem in the nearest future.
