Christistruth00:The Portuguese trade wasn't big,the big ports in Nigeria in that era was Calabar, ghotun not Lagos |

sunboy:LAGOS state was the FG capital for 70years, It's like you don't know LAGOS, if you knew Lagos during the time of the military, you'd know that the whole of LAGOS was the federal capital, the military never restricted itself to Lagos island |

babasolution:So Obvious you don't know Yoruba History The Main Slave Ports of Oyo Were Badagry and Porto Novo Ebute Meta in Lagos and Jakin in Benin Republic were also Oyo Ports but Badagry and Porto Novo were the most used for the export of Slaves to Brazil Ebute Meta was used at a time when Oyo chief export to Europe was Pepper And that was why you had people like Aromire the owner of Lagos Island having a pepper.plantation on his Island Much of the Pepper together with that from other Areas under Oyo were exported from Ebute Meta The Export of Oyos as Slaves was banned ( Since all Oyos were considered to be Alaafins Children) , until Oyo had the great Misfortune and calamity of having Awole as Alaafin Oyo and to make the Calamity even worse he choose Afon*ja as his Aare Oona Kanfo and both of them together plunged Oyo into one Century of Chaos It was at that point that Oyos started being Sold as Slaves for the very first time after Afon*ja recruited Fulani's into his own Personal Army at Ilorin after he finally rebelled against Alaafin Awole his benefactor Now present us with your own History of that time so that we too can attack and tear it apart like you are doing here |

| Re: For Nigeria To Progress The FG Needs To Build 2 More Capitals by pazienza(m): 5:59pm On Jul 29, 2024 |
Christistruth02:No it was never the capital of Eastern region. Enugu was always the capital of Eastern region. Azikiwe didn't have such powers until 1960 when independence came. Stop talking nonsense. The Wikipedia page also claimed that Eastern region was created in 1954, but we know it's false. The Southern Protectorate of Nigeria was divided into Eastern and Western regions in 1939 by the British administrator called Bernard Burdillion. Calabar was never the capital of the Eastern region. Never! |

pazienza:Calabar was the Capital of the Eastern Region Even the British advised Azikiwe from changing it to Enugu when he was Premier That is partly why till Today Calabar people are not keen on Azikiwe and Ojukwu The British explained to Azikiwe that the Capital was better at Calabar being a Port City that would Stimulate the Economy of the Eastern Region but Azikiwe refused to listen Azikiwe also removed Prof Eyo Ita of Calabar from being the Premier of the Eastern Region |

babasolution:Lagos Island was Capital not Lagos State Lagos Island the Capital was less that 1% of Lagos State Land Mass the rest of Lagos State belonged to Awolowo's Western Region Including Lekki Even under Babangida Military FG ,Lagos Island was the Federal Capital and Awolowo built Ikeja was the State Capital Lagos Island the Capital was Completely surrounded by Lagos State because ships needed to sail through Lagos State Waters to reach the Atlantic Ocean from Lagos Island as Lagos Island was actually an Island inside the Lagos Lagoon and the entire Lagoon entrance along with the entire Seafront Coastline belonged to Lagos State and not FG

pazienza:Calabar was the Capital of the Eastern Region!!!! It was called the Eastern Province at that time It was Azikiwe that moved the Capital to Enugu against the advice of the British who explained to Azikiwe that Calabar was better because it was a Port City and would Stimulate Economic Activity and growth for the entire Region if the Capital remained in Calabar Azikiwe refused to listen in a move that was clearly Tribally motivated Enugu was not a Strategic Location Calabar being a Port City was! Azikiwe also removed Prof Eyo Ita (who was also from Calabar) as the Premier of the Eastern Region

babasolution:Lagos Island was still the Capital Lagos State had a separate Military Governor and the first was Major Mobolaji Johnson All the other States also had Military Governors too The FG was at Lagos Island the Capital When it ran out of Land it leased Land from Lagos State which was formerly Western Region and which still belonged to Awori,Ilaje,Ilaje ,Egbas,Egun ,,Oyo,Owu,Ketu as it had for Centuries The rest of Lagos State was Separate and had Ikeja as the Capital No Gov Developed Lagos the Way Jakande did Jakande turned Lagos State into a building Site building Schools Hospitals Colleges everything The most important FG infrastructure in Lagos was the 3rd Mainland Bridge but all Major Bridges in Nigeria were always built by the FG Including Jebba,Lokoja,Idah,Onitsha bridges The Airport was actually initially built by the British Gov for the Western Province but the whole of Nigeria used it This was Major Mobolaji Johnson explaining that Lagos was not No man's land

Christistruth02:The fact that the capital was in "LAGOS ISland" brought development to its environs, just as Abuja built from scratch as brought development to the whole FCT. LAGOS capital extended to the mainland and in fact the most developed pact of the mainland today were those built or influenced by the then FG eg yaba,surulere,amuwo-odofin, apapa, probably only Ikeja zone was the only part that has significant development outside FG influence. The rest of the core mainland not "influenced" by FG were not developed even till today |

babasolution:You got it Wrong It was the other way round The British chose Lagos Island as the Capital because Lagos was already a Major Port and commercial Trading Center long before the British arrived in 1851 The Yorubas were already doing International Trade with the Portuguese,Dutch, French, Spanish and Germans there Lagos was already the busiest Port in West Africa and Commercial Capital of Yorubaland long before the British arrived It was main Port of Northern Nigeria used too |

babasolution:Don't Claim for FG that which Awolowo did All the Industrial Estates around Apapa Port were built by Awolowo who also built Factories there too so Western Region and subsequent Lagos State could ship its manufactured products from there to the rest of the Globe It was Awolowo who did everything he could to turn Lagos into an Economic Powerhouse Western Region Lagos was under Awolowo It included the Entire Lagos Sea Coast In those days Ikeja LG included Lagos Harbour and reached the Atlantic Ocean You Yourself know that Awolowo was a great builder It was because of Awolowo's free Education Policy that Easterners first started flooding into Lagos to enroll their Children and Siblings in Western Region Schools it was not because of the FG All the Mainland areas were the Western Region Lands The FG only leased Western Region and Lagos State Land there because Lagos Island the Capital had run out of Land Western Region and the Successor Lagos State was only trying to help the FG out of it's Lack of Land predicament by allowing it to use its Lands Were the Western Region and Lagos State wrong to help the FG after it had completely run out of Land or should they be penalized for doing So ? |

Christistruth02:No place in your write up was Calabar mentioned as the capital of the Eastern region. Enugu was the most strategic town in the entire East in colonial era as the most valuable resources of the era, which was coal was being mined in Enugu. Infact Port Harcourt was only created to link Enugu coal to the Sea for exports. Without Enugu there wouldn't even be a PH. That's how strategic Enugu was. It was the goose that was laying the golden eggs. Stop smoking Marijuana. |

Christistruth02:It was the whites( colonialist) that built the industrial estates at apapa not Awolowo, you are wrong, Awolowo did more in Ibadan than in LAGOS, the military and missionaries also gave subsidised education not only Awolowo. Most of the estates in Lagos, including roads eg the ikorodu road, were built by the military. Mind you there were numerous foreign companies in LAGOS providing jobs, not only awolowos companies. There were also companies in the East and north providing jobs. Mind you also, the igbos were more in the north prior to the war, during the regional government times than they were in the West,After the war, most couldn't return to the north and looked to Lagos, the capital. |
| Re: For Nigeria To Progress The FG Needs To Build 2 More Capitals by babasolution(op): 3:05pm On Jul 30, 2024 |
Christistruth02:You are wrong, the British claimed LAGOS because they were invited to support a party( one of the obas against the other) in return the Oba surrendered his sovereignty of LAGOS. The itsekiri, ijaw,Benin, efiks were also doing international(legitimate) trade as big or even bigger than LAGOS prior to 1851. Infact the British wanted to use LAGOS as a depot mainly for returned slaves like Freetown. The British were more interested in Lagos at that point because, it was still a zone of heavy slave trade by oba kosoko, while other ports such as ghotun, brass, nembe,Calabar etc had drastically reduced slave trade and embraced legitimate trade, but oba kosoko refused and was still a heavy slave trader,so they took an opportunity to dethrone him and claim Lagos to prevent further trade of slaves( atleast that was the official reason) not because LAGOS was a big hub for legitimate trade,it simply wasn't. |

babasolution:Your version of History is very wicked Propaganda against Yorubaland It was the Egbas of Abeokuta and the Christian Missionaries there that invited the British to Capture Lagos!!!!! You cannot Teach us our own Yoruba History! Bishop Ajayi Crowther personally visited Queen Victoria and asked her to Bombard Lagos to end the Slave Trade there Lagos Island was attacked by the British the following month and Kosoko was removed as king of Lagos Let me tell you something the Awori were under Alaafin of Oyo when Benin Attacked Lagos Ebutte Meta in Lagos was once a Port of the Oyo Empire that was Controlled by Olofin Yes!! It was after Oyo took Badagry and Porto Novo off the King of Dahomey in War that they started using Badagry and Porto Novo Ports instead of Ebute Meta in Lagos!! Till Today the Yoruba Traditional Ruler of Porto Novo is under Alaafin Oyo You Probably Don’t Know that Ijebuland begins from 5 Cowrie Creek on Victoria Island Yes!! Or that Clapperton met Exiled Oba of Lagos Adele in Badagry in 1825 praying Tribute to the Alaafin of Oyo as the acting Ruler of Badagry before the Egbas reinstated Adele as Oba of Lagos in 1834 Yes!! Let me tell you more so your Head can get the authentic History right On the Day that the British Empire arrived All of Lagos State was under the Egba, Ijebu and Oyo Armies Lagos Island was the only exception and we will tell you why Even Iddo and Otto Island facing Lagos Island were under the Egba of Abeokuta Lagos Island was the only Exception because when the Yorubas fought the Ota War of 1842 Egbas of Abeokuta won and took control of all the Land from Abeokuta to the Sea After they had taken Iddo Island facing Lagos Island the Egba War Chiefs decided that Lagos Island Was not worth talking because of the Huge Military losses that the Egba fighters would have Incurred as a result of the Ocean Warfare needed to Capture Lagos Island If it was Port the Egbas Needed they already had Ebutte Meta that belonged to Oloto of Otto under their Military Control Mind you Benin never turned up to defend Lagos during the 1842 Ota War O! It was the Egbas, Awori and Ibadan Oyos slugging it out on the battlefield The Ibadan pitched their War Camp at Agege and fought all the Way to the Sea under Basorun Oluyole Who was the allied with Oba of Lagos and the Awori of Ota The Ilajes controlled the Entrance of Lagos Lagoon into the Atlantic Ocean and not the Oba of Lagos That was part of what led to the British entering into a Separate treaty with the Ilajes Now Listen, The British finally invaded and took Lagos Island as Military Allies of the Egbas of Abeokuta and its Christian Missionaries in retaliation for and to stop King Kosoko of Lagos selling Egbas into Slavery Yes!!! Bishop Ajayi Crowther had personally met with Queen Victoria in November of 1851 to request that the British attack Lagos, The British attacked Lagos a month later and reinstated Oba Akitoye on the Throne after removing Kosoko Finally, On top of all that Lagos Island itself belongs to the Yoruba Awori People who descended from Oduduwa and migrated from Ile Ife in the 13th Century!! Stop rewriting Yoruba History!!! Concentrate on your own History !! Goodbye!!!!! |

Christistruth02:My claim which you haven't refuted here is that,Lagos was not a big trading hub prior to British claim, atleast not bigger than other central and Eastern ports(brass,Calabar( the eastern ports linked up to lokoja, enabling even bigger trade in that axis), Lagos became Lagos under the British and the FG period. |
| Re: For Nigeria To Progress The FG Needs To Build 2 More Capitals by Christistruth02: 4:17pm On Jul 30, 2024 |
babasolution:Lagos Was the biggest Trading Hub in West Africa The Kings of Dahomey's insatiable thirst for Slave Raiding everyone including Traders visiting the Coast on Business had driven much Maritime International Trade West to Lagos Could you imagine a Nupe or Hausa man go to trade at the King of Dahomey Ports without himself being kidnapped and sold into Slavery himself? Oyo and Lagos Kings guaranteed the safety of Traders coming from kingdoms as far away as Borno Gobir Kano to trade in Lagos If they tried that with Dahomey kingdom they would have been shipped to Brazil as Slaves themselves!! The kings of Dahomey had no such honour (Omoluabi) The only one that did was murdered and replaced within 3 years |

Christistruth02:Oyo had declined and finally fell in 1820s,Yoruba land was in grievous civil war from that time on,what guarantee of safety are you talking about.infact it was the fall of oyo and the Yoruba civil war that drove Yorubas into LAGOS, prior to the time,LAGOS was considered a backwater,Yoruba civillization was never a coastal civilisation but a land based on. The Yoruba prior to the civil war never rated LAGOS |
