1.Russian colonial ambitions focused on central asia and also on Europe too...hence the Russian empire was centered in Asia, and in Europe. Germany too used to be like them, no focus on Africa, but focusing on Europe..especially eastern europe, incl ironically Russia (Hitler's demented goal for Russia was to exterminate millions of russians and replace them with Aryan SS controlled farmers, or something. Hitler was mad, really mad. Some people say Stalin was mad, but Hitler makes Stalin look very sane. Stalin was not thinking about exterminating whole races for nothing).

2.That is why Russia never had an empire in Africa. The russian view of imperialism was control over Asia and Europe, with at least a warm water port where they could deploy their growing naval forces.

3.Soviet doctrine was basically taking the above a notch. Create a dependent range of European states to protect against invasion from Europe...because if you know your history, RUssia has been invaded from the West several times...hence the concept of the buffer, and hence their concept of invading Ukraine.


4.Russia may have never colonised Africa, but during the old days of the USSR, they did try to build up a lot of dependencies in Africa...to confront the West, and to gain access to minerals. Even supproting African independece movements was basically a means of doing that. It had nothing to do with them loving us black people more than the West. Nothing like love in international relations...which is why Israel and SOuth korea spy on the US and vice versa, for example.

2. IN the 18th century, one of Russia's greatest ever generals was a black man. Abraham Petrovich Gannibal. This man was rescued from slavery as a teenager by the Russian ambassador to what is now Turkiye, and was raised to become a great general

Gannibal made two great contributions to Russia's future

A) He once encouraged one of his neighbours to send his supposedly not promising son to millitary academy after interacting with the boy for some hours....and that boy grew up to become probably Russia's greatest general..

b) His great grandson was the Russian Novelist...Pushkin....who not only was one of Russia's greatest literary figures, but also is credited with modernizing the Russian language so to speak(Some of his descendants include close relatives of the father of the current King of Great Britain by the way, long story. No, they are mostly white).

So, not necessarlly as you think

3. While russia did have a brief attempt at african colonization which failed, its major imperial aims were to dominate Cental Asia, and Eastern Europe, aims which by 1960, it had largely achieved.

Compared to a conventional sub, Russian subs are quiet. Compared to US subs, russian subs are noisier.

(Also russian sub tech was a bit behind US sub tech..as made evident by the Kursk disaster for example)
