Nigeria should revisit it . Removing two zeros from the current value whereby 1500 to 1 dollars would become 15 to 1

Ghana did in 2009, Seirra Leone did it just last July 2023 . What is stopping Nigeria from doing it.

How will the Naira be redenominated?

It is by dropping two zeros from the currency or moving two decimal places to the left. The name of the national currency will still be the Naira. However, during the transition period, the existing Naira will be referred to as the "Old Naira", and the new one to be called the "New Naira". After the transition period, the word "New" may be dropped.

Thank you OP... Right now Nigerian leaders don't need any advice, you really think they don't know what to do to make Nigeria better? Our leaders are not as clueless as we think, they know better than us the only problem is they won't do it. Because they fear the wealth of a common man.
The west is seriously controlling our govt because Nigeria as it stands is the biggest market in the whole world. Once we begin to get it right now more markets for china, US, UK Etc and they don't want that.... It's too much threat for them.

It will not Improve the value of naira. It is just sugar coating the old naira. It means that if your salary is 15000 it will become 150, which will still get you the same number of dollars as 15000.

It is not about denomination.

1 USD = 1,350 South Korean Won

1 USD = 16 Ghanaian Cedis

Does it mean Cedis is stronger than the Won. No.

Is the Ghanaian economy better than S.Korean economy. Ofcourse No.

You can change Naira's denomination overnight to 1 USD to N160. It will make no difference to the underlying economic problems.

Ghana's situation is even worse than Nigeria. It is no wonder they're also having protests.

This is a very bad idea. It would increase inflation and we would also be wasting money on redesign and printing of the new notes

It will make it worse.
if you remove to zeros from 1500 to make it 15 to 1$
After a year that 15 Would grow by inflation to 1500 to 1$

It will now be 3000 to 1$
Thats what happened in zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe currently has Trillion dollar notes.

That was long time ago. Zimbabwe launched a new gold-backed currency, The ZiG to replace the Zimbabwean dollar

ZiG is a digital currency back by "physical" gold.
A lot of cons associated if Nigeria takes on that.
A lot of unaccounted funds, that the digital currency would not allow
We dont have enough physical gold to act as reserves
Our petroleum should have been our reserves but we have mortgaged it up the wazoo.
Nigeria's problem is they are not ready to even open up the books completely, there is no sincerity in revenue received and its allocation

He understands and it is a cosmetic treatment. Tinubu may claim that to be an achievement as well. No need doing that as it may cause more confusion.

I see, are you familiar with the concept of it being backed with gold ?

Do you know the US Dollar was historically pegged to gold as well before the bretton woods summit.

Where Nixon "de-pegged" it from Gold....Giving genuine reasons.

Denomination of the naira will not change the purchasing power of naira, it only changes the face value. I don’t want to hear Ghana cedi as an example, cos it has no value close to the naira.

Re: Re-denomination Of Naira ???? by KnowAll(op): 7:00am On Aug 03, 2024
If we have plans our currencies should converge. For example Ghana is 16 to dollar, by removing two 00’s ours would be 15 to dollar while seirra leone is currently 23 to 1 .

This can be adjusted slightly so that having the eco could maybe realised.

All these overnight economic analyst. Though I still prefer discussion like this to those abuse reeling threads of obidients that smacks of tribalism and hatred of Tinubu.

It doesn't change anything. Hope you know your salary will remove two digits as well. Don't even compare Nigeria to Ghana. Our economy is miles ahead of theirs
