This is the direct reflections of the people in government and their ability to handle the affairs of the nation. 2015 will remain the worst year Nigerians was unfortunate to experience. Absolutely triumph of evil over good. |

Goodman247:Our leaders are unable to unify the people and address us in heart moving speech. - America can do this quite easily. Chinese, Japanese, British... Their leaders can address them, give them speech to psyche them up and raise their morale. Our own leaders are hiding under big agbada every time. America has psyched its people in the real world and even in the imaginary world. I'm sure every American knows Captain America. Yes it is fictional character. But the symbolism is very clear. The muscular American soldier man that will fight the enemies for the freedom of American people! Children know him. Adults know him.. They know him, because that is HOW their mind works. - We don't' have such symbolism in Nigeria. The moment you say, Captain Nigeria, people will ask, "which tribe is he from"? Na there the concept go end. That's why we don't have such symbolism. We each have different mindsets and nothing unifying us. At least now, this our hunger protest will unify all of us to an extent, even though some are still distancing themselves.

favor914:I don't get it. If you are so proud about your Biafra stuff, why don't you make a Biafra webpage and leave this Nigerian webpage (Nairaland) alone? Why are you always here, telling everybody you can, that you are not a Nigerian? |

SpaceX:Most African countries have not hosted olympics because they do not want their economies to be damaged to a point where IMF and China combined cannot help you. Greece hosted olympics in 2004, wahala dey their economy five years later. Canada hosted olympics in 1976, and finished paying off the debt incurred 40 years after The main problem is that a lot of facilites built for sporting events end up being unused and don't make enough money either for the host city, nation or even sporting authorities. Even the Beijing stadium...built for 2008 olympics that was supposed to host a football team that would attract fans that would pay money for its upkeep...did not work that way. See Nigeria. We hosted all africa games in 2003. One of the things built there was the velodrome. It is a large landmark in Abuja, yet up till today it is not used for most of the year. Just lies waste. Cycling events, e no fit host am, occasionally reliigous bodies hold programmes there, and even the NNPP had its presidential convention there in 2022, but it sits empty. Huge money sink. Abuja sporting complex built for the games is a large mess. Even the games village....housing for the middle class and the rich, not for the poor. Imagine if we hosted Olympics. I mean, we can host olympics...and build nice facilites, but at the end, what next. We can build a nice gymasia, which would be unused because we don't have enough gymnasts. We can biuild a nice rugby field...how many Nigerians play rugby? Dressage? How many Nigerians ride horses for fun or own horses? You see the wahala. Even developed countries are running away from hosting Olympics and similar competitions. Commonwealth games is already having issues with finding hosts for the next several episodes of the games...and even the IOC...the fact that they gave LA the 2028 games covers up the fact that there were not many applicants in the first place. Countries don't want to spend billions and get nothing in return. |

Akalia: It's because they see it as no man's business. A situation people are force to live together, there is no real patriotism. The UK and other European countries that are on their own, have same culture or possibly language. This make them to work for the common good of their country, it's their own and they can't afford to loss it. Over here someone will be the head and tries to sideline regions that even provide the resources for the country's sustainability. Everyone just want to get to power so as to get hold of the wealth available. The kind of leaders people vote in can't be voted in their immediate society. They will prefer someone that can provide their basic needs. But in national level , it doesn't concern anyone how other regions will survive. |
