No. The system has not changed, only personnel. He tried to start Nkunku in no 9, KDH, Caicedo, Enzo and Lavia at the same time. He therefore sacrificed width to test this, using Gusto and Mudryk.

It's not worked, he's found this out. He's changed it. And he can only do all this because it's Pre Season.

Lack of width means that City can push up on us, thereby allowing them to overload the midfield, resulting in mistakes.

All four goals came from mistakes under pressure, not from being open as a LovePeddler house.

He compromised personnel in specific positions to assess tactical flexibility of his squad. I cannot see how that's a bad thing..... during pre-season.

common sense can show anybody that his plan in that Game was seeing all his four best midfielders can start together.

Nkuku is not a natural top striker, we need another 9. Broja should go on loan, he is not ready yet to do 25+ league goals.

Our major problem that I can see is, putting the ball at the back of the net. We are creating plenty of chances but still don't know how to bury them. I am not against Olize, but we need another natural striker, so that pressure of scoring won't kill this young Jackson.

Gusto was playing left wing actually. It was a clever tactical role. Instead of inverting into midfield from a starting LB position, he was running up to the LW position to create the width from a starting LB position. His normal position as an inverted LB was being covered by Caicedo. But he still ran all the way back for defensive cover to make a back four.

But tactically, the box midfield was still intact with KDH/Enzo as the double 8s and the Lavia/Caicedo as double 6s, and the back 3 + GK in offensive stance.

If we had the prolific Halaand on our side, the score would have 4-3. If we didn't, but had say Nico Williams on the left, Olise on the right, and say a Lampard type midfielder instead of Enzo, it would have been 5-4 in favour of Chelsea. That's the other half of the story.



We need to score 80 goals minimum to stand a chance of finishing in top four. 87+ for top 3 and 90+ for top 2.

A prolific striker is only going to get you 25 (PL only) of those. Where's the rest going to come from?

That's why the more pertinent problem is the support cast we have and not a prolific striker.

When you have a prolific striker that knows how, where and when to open up for passes perfectly and superb in front of goal, even the keeper will trust and set him up on goal. But when you have Jackson, a wastepipe in front of goal, even the most cheerful giver in the team will think twice before releasing him.

Are we saying we should pay above the roof and get a Nico that won't join a conference league team, because we want to keep a wasteful striker in the team?

I remember this is how you wanted us to keep wasteful Morata, and we fell off waiting for his stone to produce water. He was later bundled out, justifying my argument against his purchase.

Later in the day I will dig deep into how having a wasteful striker but good support cast can be neutralized when playing numerous teams with low block in Epl. They will just double mark each winger on the ball and leave the wasteful striker to remain useless.
