Rephrase...corrupt president who deliberately weakens institutions for selfish reasons. The story of the acquisition of agip by oando for exploration and importation of petroleum product's and those behind this shady deal and the blending facility in Malta as mentioned by dangote will shock you.

I only pity those illiterates supporting this man on empty stomach. Their lives are being mortgaged while they're still alive, smh! . Those in the national assembly who can't do their jobs are also culpable in the Nigeria's woes. They're mostly retired governors who have destroyed their states while serving their states
Please stop typing in ignorance.
Who told you the acquisition of Agip by Oando was a shady deal? What makes it a shady deal?
Oando had acquired ConocoPhillips in 2011 for $1.5b which was even much bigger than ENI-Agip ($500m).
Oando has been operating in the oil and gas sector for decades and the acquisition of assets of other companies are not new.
SEPLAT recently acquired assets of ExxonMobil. A consortium of Nigerian companies also bought over the assets of Shell. Are those shady deals as well?

See how Baba Iyabo dey talk like say the rot and mess we are experiencing today didn't start with him.

He's talking about Nigeria putting all her eggs in one basket. Lol. What did he do to diversify our economy as a military head of state and the first and a two-term president after 1999? The man even pushed a third term agenda.

Didn't everyone of them since 1960 abandon agriculture and chase after oil money?

"I believe we made a very, very deadly mistake" - No sir, I believe YOU made a very, very deadly mistake.

When you invited Shell and they told you about the corruption ruining our refineries, sir, what did you do with the power given to you by the people to crush the cabal and rot in our oil industry? You were president for 8 years, what did you do to put the interest of the people as priority? What efforts did you make to change the trajectory of the NNPC for the benefit of the common Nigerians?

What was OBJ's stride in our gas sector? What policies and reforms did he introduce to the gas industry? What were his implementations? Didn't he flare our gas too?

OBJ is saying shit, with all due respect. This is the person some idiots are rallying around because the man they hate so much became president.

Tinubu's bad policies implementions aside, at least for the first time since 1960, we have a brave president who has the political will, muscle, and clout to repurpose our economy. And if he and the APC had allowed GEJ the weakling remove the subsidy in 2011, we would have moved past this pain - Tinubu has a share of this blame too.

There's no going back from here, inshallah. The economy must be rejigged, no matter how pain and strenuous the process may be. History will remember Tinubu for not taking the easy route of padding our economy.

Edit: Some idiots are quoting me to say trash. The truth is bitter, so deal with it. Some were saying shit about good economy under OBJ. Lol, even a retard could run our economy like he did because of the oil boom. Go and check how much Nigeria earned with crude oil sales between 1999 and 2006. Then compare with next successive governments.

The crazy oil money during that time was one of the reason they all abandoned other critical areas of the economy for oil. They took the easy way and we are suffering it today. They didn't foresee that the oil mania will end, or perhaps, they saw but didn't care because they knew they won't be the ones to deal with the problem. Nigerians just don't think, that's the issue. So far any 10 IQ president can subsidize their PMS and dollars, they think all is well and won't give a f*uck about their own future or that of the next generation.

All you want is government handouts in the form subsidies then you later cry that the country is retrogressing in economic and infrastructural development. One idiot even asked me to mention one third world country that isn't subsidizing their citizens. Oponu, must Nigeria remain a third world country for life, even after 60 years since independence? This is the kind of imbeciles that sell all they have and secure loans to japa to sane countries where nothing is free. Ode!

The country using 96% of our revenue to service loan; shouldn't that be a concern for any right thinking citizen? Instead of asking past governments how and why we got to this point, the average Nigeria won't so far you give them subsidies as if they are orphans. And before you say dogshit, OBJ didn't have to borrow because of massive oil revenue. We started borrowing after the oil boom was over. And mind you, we shouldn't have borrowed to the extent where almost all our revenue is used to service loans if OBJ diversified our economy from the start with the massive influx of income Nigeria earned during his time. He should have been the person to lay our economic blueprint and like I've said, he took the easy route and avoided the hard work.

What happens to your business when 100% of the money you make per month is used to repay loans and the situation is even worse that you are still sourcing for more loans to make your business stay afloat? If you can't answer that, keep shut whenever the Nigeria economy is being discussed.

Zero agriculture, terrible gas economy, no other economy sector, zero manufacturing + production just subsidies, vibes and inshallah plus crazy level of importation, and you, OBJ, is now complaining that our youths are redundant. Thunder fire you, sir.
Obj the luckiest president grin Every time he comes on board he makes so much petrol dollars without putting it into good use

While Buhari own is to come with his bad luck

You just vomited trash... Since after obj era, are you aware alot of ministries and parastatal has been created on this economy that was not diverted??.!lemme ask you this, with all the creation of the ministries, what are the benefits to the common man??.At that, even during obj era or (PDP) inflation was well managed..Since the inception of APC can you check how the inflation was managed?? commodity price almost jump to ×4.To add fuel to the burning flame, Tinubu just come onboard first thing on his mind as to announce subsidy is gone... without looking at the implications. And at this point I love Nigerians for one thing, they are always supportive to their leaders... because if they have anything against the man, it will be from the first day he made the announcement they will.have protest against it..but tinubu promise in return that the money that will be save from the subsidy will be for another purpose..lemme now ask you this..WHERE AND WHAT HAS THE MONEY SAVE FROM SUBSIDY ACHIEVED??. if the masses where able to see the impact of what they endure pains for, I swear they wont be on the street protesting..but the masses endure pains only for the politicians to be feeding fat at the expense of the citizens.. atleast a reasonable government in an overall 10 box to fulfill for your people, atleast fill 6 or 7 and the remaining will be overlooked...but see where we are, no stable light, no good road connection, high cost of living, common food to survive is not for the rich, security of life and property not guaranteed..then now be sincere with your self, as yourself this..has Nigeria get it bad as this before??..the condition right now is so pathetic..

Even OBJ is afraid of naming the cabal... Let Tinubu drill Dangote a bit more, I'm sure he will name them. Let's just know their names, shikena...! Then they will know that this is a very bad time to be a cabal member in this country. I blame our journalists that can't practice investigative journalism but their usual lazy copy & paste kinda. Go to Malta, come back with documents, audio and video evidence of what we want to know. Every past presidents till date are either lilly livered or part of the cabal and they have all disappointed the country. God's intervention is needed... The disagreement that will throw out every hidden facts suffering the common Nigerians shall speedily happen between the elites & untie every shackles of stagnation in our nation.

The former President also condemned the style adopted by President Bola Tinubu to remove fuel subsidies, stating that the present administration should have first considered the hardship the subsidy removal could cause people and how to ameliorate the same.

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not just wake up one morning and say you removed the subsidy. Because of inflation, the subsidy that we have removed is not gone. It has come back,” the former President stressed.

You remove subsidy without a functional national refinery

Also the private refinery available can't get crude to buy from government

So how will there not be issues and hardship

Thunder fire you, sir.

You are very biased, subjective and unprofessional in your submission. You failed to respond to key issues raised in the news but chose to vet your accumulated anger thereby derailing from subject. Failure to recognize few laudable strides of OBJ's administration is a discredit to your article. Again, your advocacy for the current administration is not in doubt, hence your possible reason to closed-minded review of the BAT's administration. One of the conditions for borrowing foreign loans from some institutions is the absence of any form of subsidy in national economy. The announcement of fuel removal and it's immediate implementation was suggestive to the aforementioned and readiness for massive borrowings to recurrent expenditure. Without looking at the intentions for the pursuits of all subsidy removal, right thinking mind will ask fundamental questions like, what and where are the phases of structures put in place to cushion the effect of subsidy removal and ensure fuel availability and affordability. None of these was done, and the body language prior to the protest wasn't supportive to the functionality of local refineries. I celebrate the political will of BAT to remove fuel subsidy, and also condemn in strongest possible terms the zero political wills to encourage local production of fuel. Issuance of mere statement to sell crude to Dangote without backing same with executive order for NNPC to act is an unforgivable political deception. Aside OBJ's flaws, he stand tall in key areas. Let's BAT drop sustainable and economic driven legacies, and stop this dashing of monies which doesn't build the economy.

u must be indomie generation or something or just biased to not know what Obasanjo did compared to what Jonathan, buhari and tinubu did.

Obasanjo despite his challenges coming from the military rule era and dealing with a rebel vice president steered the economy in the right direction. He was diversifying the economy to agriculture and other sectors using transcop which has its share sold to the public so it wasn't a private or government solely runned cooperation. He wanted the infamously controversial 3rd term to build on that but it was denied. Yaradua didn't understand thst blueprint and toed a different direction with his 7 point agenda.

OBJ made himself the Petroleum Minister under his regime. Yet he couldn't revamp any of the refineries. He couldn't fix electricity problem either after sinking $16 billion (which magically grew wings) into it. He laid the foundation for the corruption in the oil sector that he is complaining about.

You are an empty head with a lot of time to write verbiage. I will not join issues with you because your type are never wrong. Mumu.

For the rest, suffice to say in the Nigerian context, Obasanjo is the greatest man ever to manage to reach the Presidency of Nigeria. The rest are simply empty with huge personal ambitions. I'm happy I voted him in 1999 and he definitely went a long way to fix the mess created for 20 years after he left office. I think you are very stupid, was a litre sold N1000 during Obasanjo? Was dollar equal to N1500 during Obasanjo, I understand this importation because I know a director from Nassarawa State was killed during Yaradua for asking of dubious money getting from this importation of this fuel... You are stupid
Mr wise one, you don't even have the capacity to reason that's why you're pouring out your frustration here undecided

It would be waste of time to try educate people like you. Keep wallowing in your ignorance.

But then he handed over and the forest has grown back thicker on the concrete. Suffice to say I stopped voting after his tenure
Na so. Continue!

u must be indomie generation or something or just biased to not know what Obasanjo did compared to what Jonathan, buhari and tinubu did.

The same Transcorp that was riddled with corruption from head to toe, where OBJ bought the majority of the shares? You must think only babies are on this platform.

Lol. Anyways, ride on. Agenda must agend. One idiot even found excuse for OBJ hunting for 3rd term. cheesy All of you, continue.

Nigerians bought share doesn't mean they were the only investors. The company barely took off when Obj left government.

What did the others u are defending do? Rack up loans, loot money, create hyper inflation and throw millions into poverty.

I have said it over and over again. Both FG and Dangote have blame in all of these

But I want Dangote to win. That refinery will help our economy. Let's leave politics aside.
If dangote refinery will guarantee Nigerians quality diesel and pms, better than what is currently being imported then I hope he gets at least 70% of the Nations market share.

We are a nation with a f*cking 200M population that can't feed herself, zero agriculture, terrible gas economy, no other viable economy sector, zero manufacturing or production; just subsidies, vibes and inshallah plus crazy level of importation, and you, OBJ, is now complaining that our youths are redundant. Thunder fire you, sir.
Even a retard can google to find out the price of oil when Obj became president. A simple Google will tell you the price of oil when he became president. It is the same foolishness that made people like you protested in 2012 saying even a ratard can give us electricity in 6 months. It is the same foolishness that made people like you not to be aware that Nigeria is still paying trillions of naira in the same subsidy that the so called brave one removed….lol. Try to admit your foolishness as foolishness and don’t see a foolish policy as bravery.

The fact that you registered just last year on nairaland suggest that you were a kid during obasanjo's reign. And I'll forgive your ignorance.

No government is perfect.

Comparison of economic metrics over the years would make it clear to non-illiterate how far behind we have gone as a country between GEJ and BAT time.

Obj repositioned Nigeria on the the path to greatest which if GEJ had managed well would have seen us move father than we fared btw 2011 and 2014. We all thought GEJ was woeful until PMB and BAT made him look like a saint.

Learn to read widely and not depend on nairaland or Nigerian tabloids alone.
