BENUE YOUTHS SHUN PROTEST, SOLICIT FOR ALIA GENERATION YOUTH HOUSE.


In Benue State, the name ALIA GENERATION stands for the youths as the Executive Governor of Benue State has come to acknowledge the Youths as the new generation of Leaders by responding effectively and efficiently to their yearnings and aspirations through responsive governance.

Responsive governance entails responding efficiently and effectively to people's real needs.This requires a resolve to anchor policies, strategies, programs, activities and resources, taking into account people's expectations, with particular attention paid to local variations and ambitions. When this happens, citizens as well as residents feel that they are valued and respected members of the community. This is the current situation in Benue State since the coming to power of the MASSES OHITTY, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

Some indicators to a responsive governance include descriptive representation; having elected /appointed officials whose demographic characteristics broadly reflect those of their constituents correlates with greater feelings of political influence and engagement. Feeling represented by one's "local officials " has a positive effect on their civic engagement and increases their SENSE OF BELONGING and empowerment.

Political participation: political participation can reflect voter's, in this case the youths, own sense of power and autonomy, sense of well-being and political representation. The Benue Youth today is more willing than before to actively participate in the programs and activities of the government.

Safety from crime: exposure to crime is often associated with elevated levels of stress, depression and segregation and anxiety especially amongst the youth. It is needless to submit that the Benue Youths of today are more safe from crime because they are less stressful, less depressed and less segregated courtesy of the purposeful leadership in Benue state.

The above indicators could readily be associated with the Governor Alia's led administration. Hence we can say that Benue State is blessed to have a responsive leader at the helm of affairs, with the youths as the highest beneficiaries.

It is on record that more than 5.5 million people under the age of 50 constitute the world's current population, and play a crucial role in economic stability, ensuring that political structures work for everyone - Benue inclusive.

But despite the passion and drive of many young people to make a difference, they were often excluded from decision making especially by successive administrations in Benue State and remain one of the under represented groups in parliament and government appointed offices in Nigeria.

The above is a significant problem given that some of the world's toughest challenges disproportionately affect youths, including unemployment, VIOLENT CONFLICT, displacement and insufficient access to Education among other life changing needs.

Upon assumption of office, the SPIRITUAL GOVERNOR of Benue State also felt that harnessing the political potential of the Benue Youths and promoting their political participation at all levels of the decision - making process was crucial for peace and development of the state. Recently as some Youths from other parts of the NATION joined the nationwide protest, Benue youths through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Youth Mobilization and Empowerment, led by the Benue State Youth Leader Hon. Moses Mkeenem stood strong against the protest with assurance to the Governor through his office Head of Administration/Secretary, Comr Akende Edmond Aondona of their unflinching loyalty and support to the Executive Governor of Benue State for his people oriented policies and programs. Comr Akende while speaking on behalf of the entire Benue youths cited the Benue Palm Project as one out of the many laudable projects of the Alia's administration they were willing to cue in as one among the best strategies to ameliorate Poverty and the spate of Youth restiveness in Benue State.

Based on the foregoing, It is obvious that youth participation in Benue politics is yielding tremendous result, hence the appeal by Benue Youths for Alia Generation Youth House (AGYH); A Youth House for training of Benue Youths in Skills and breeding new and young crop of of leaders be swiftly looked into by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Benue State as one of the sure ways to connect and sustain the positive ideals of this new generation of potential skills persons, politicians and political activists in Benue State.
