The only help the government can render is giving out money, these are things that cause inflation. Why don't we devise a plan where students can be employed and they should be paid for service rendered and get work experience?
What do you expect from a government of junkies

Tuition has been paid directly to the school . The N20k is additional support for the student's upkeep.
This is a good one, really.

Something well thought out like this is what Nigerians need , not Sending grains to them like paupers.
They both are the same. You go to school finish to learn stupid theoretical course that doesn't even equip you with any skill and graduate and be unemployed or underemployed after wasting your 5 to 6 precious years.
I wonder what motivates Nigerian youths to go to the university?
Even the so called doctors that are skilled and in high demand, get fed up and want leave Nigeria.

Do you mean that we don't need privately run factories and farms as well as cheap fuel from PH refinery in addition to Dangote's huh

Biodun556:
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Ltd. said it has fulfilled its pledge of achieving the mechanical completion of rehabilitation work on the Area 5 Plant of the Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC.

Rehabilitation work had been ongoing at the Port Harcourt Refinery for over two years. The NNPC had pledged to complete Phase One of the project (mechanical completion and flare start-up) of Old Port Harcourt Refinery (Area 5) by 31st December 2023.

The Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, said as of December 15, 84.4% of Area 5 Plant, a key component of the Refinery, and 77.4% of the entire rehabilitation project have been completed.

He said this during an inspection tour of the rehabilitation project. The tour coincided with the 15th Refineries’ Rehabilitation Steering Committee Meeting,

Kyari’s words: “In our quest to ensure that this refinery is re-streamed to continue to deliver value to Nigerians, we made a promise that we will reach a mechanical completion of phase one of the rehabilitation project by the end of December and get the other plants running in 2024.

“Today, we have kept those commitments,” Kyari stated.

He commended the staff and the contractors for doing a great job in ensuring that the refinery achieved that significant milestone.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the NNPC Board, Chief Pius Akinyelure, described the milestone as “historic”. He stressed that the board was proud of the staff and management of the refinery.

“We are just starting. We want to be at the highest level of production so that we will keep the prices of petroleum prices in the country stable to give comfort to our people. And also to generate more revenue for our country,” Akinyelure noted.

My hope is that the beneficiaries find good job upon graduation to enable them repay otherwise, that's another trouble being for the future.

Grant or loan, how do you intend to repay these amounts when you graduate?

Another anchor hanging over your neck for life.

I still remember the year around 2000 or 2001, my mum was requesting for a 1k loan from my dad. I'm just imagining the value 1k have then for it be regarded as a loan, 1k is a very big amount of money then. Now in 2024, 1k is like #100 now

I'm very sure 90% of this students loan will not be paid back
Then you should praise Tinubu for the initiative. If students won't pay back then this will be the greatest subsidy in the history of Nigeria. Free monthly money for four years, free school fees and hope of a better future for the graduates especially from poor families. I think Mr President is right. It's better to put the fuel subsidy money in the pockets of Nigerians like this initiative rather than paying some cabal subsidy which also benefits Niger and Benin Republic who are not Nigerian tax payers. I remember how people from western region then praised Awolowo for his free education policy. Me President please hang on there. If the Abokis wanted out of the union let them go. If regional Government is what they want the south is ready. One day thousands of Nigeria graduates will say if not for Tinubu I wouldn't have had university education. This alone is a motivation for you Sir. I'm proud of this policy.

The monthly 20k for the academic year isn’t a loan, that’s FG’s stipend to the student
As good as this move by the FG appears, it is not really what Nigeria needs in this critical economic phase.
If you calculate 20k for 80% of students across all the public tertiary institutions of Nigeria per month you will realize that it runs into billions in naira. Those monies will give a better output if invested in building industries, vocational centers, supporting/funding start-ups, revolutionizing schools, subsidizing power for industries etc. This may just be another office created to strategically serve some vested interests. Believe me, this so called loan is not sustainable. At all at all na em bad pass.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some good news in respond to yesterday's thread https://www.nairaland.com/8174706/6-institutions-receive-2bn-students Well, my siblings finally received the first 20000 monthly Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). It's been a long wait, but it's definitely worth it.

A lot of us have been skeptical about the program, but I can personally attest that it's real! I'm so grateful to the government for making this opportunity available to students.

If you're a student in need of financial assistance for your education, I urge you to apply for the NELFUND loan. It's a game-changer for many students, and it could be the boost you need to achieve your academic goals.

I'm excited to see what the future holds with this financial support.

Let's spread the good news and support this initiative. Well done Mr. President
I won't believe a government that is consistent in lying until someone close to me receive theirs, that's when I will believe.

I believe covid-19 nirsal microfinance bank loan beneficiaries have narrated their various unexpected deductions from their bank accountshuh For Tinubu government loan na loan, no amnesty ooooo. So bear in mind that you shall make it after graduation because if I hear "after the person must have started working" for Nigeriahuh

All these things you spoke of are already happening. You underestimate the power of the system. The problem is poor implementation and lack of awareness.

If you think the loan scheme isn't sustainable, I wonder why you feel your suggestions would be sustainable. It beats my imagination

FYI the loan isn't for everyone and def not the solution to our problems but it's necessary. I won't have needed it if I was in school but there are a lot of people out there whose lives would be changed by this initiative.
