Christistruth02:That's false. Just like Jaja embraced Ubani, that's how so many Igbos left behind in Opobo, Bonny and Queens town may have embraced Ubani identity. The majority of individuals in the above settlements are igbos. |

EreluRoz:Nairaland is full of malicious characters. Opobo and Bonny people are descendants of mainly Ndoki people with Igbo as native language and culturally riverine. |

Jaja of Opobo is a full blooded Igbo man of Arochukwu extraction that grew to become the greatest man in Opobo and founded Rivers state. All Rivers state indigenes are Igbo. |

Armaggedon:You should understand that language is totally different from ancestry. A community of people with a particular language might for example be igbonized, if over 200 years, they become a minority in an area predominantly occupied by igbos. Their ancestry may be lost. In many cases, the older ones will come out and say the truth, handed down to them by their father's about their true ancestry. Since the ijaws like occupying the riverside, due to their culture, and worship, they leave the upland of their territory unoccupied. I'm many cases, other migrating tribes come and settle, become the majority and over 200 years or more, they colonize the ijaws by language. But usually, the ancestry is not forgotten. In Ndoki for example, the traditional rulers and elders are the ones who are on record to come out to claim that they are by ancestry, Ibani ijaws who were igbonized. Now they're trying to come back to there ancestry. Likewise in other parts of the south. In Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Abia, Imo, basically all the coastline on Nigeria and the inland waters....if you do your due diligence, the communities found there are by ancestry, ijaws who have been heavily influenced by the upland dwellers who came in later. I'm currently in Lagos, and I have moved around the state and seen riverine communities with ijaws names, speaking Yoruba. But the elders of the community know. The ijaws where the first people to live in what we know as Nigeria. |

EreluRoz:It seems you're an igbo who prefer to believe fake news spread by your igbo brothers. Igbos like Jaja were bought to Opobo as slaves. There's no time in history Opobo was ever Igbo land. Opobo is 100% Ijaw Land. There is just a tiny Igbo population there whose ancestors were bought to Opobo as Slaves |
