This is a commendable step by the Lagos State Government! Embracing our rich Yoruba language in official communication is a powerful way to strengthen cultural ties and promote inclusivity. It’s about time we celebrate our heritage and ensure everyone feels represented in governance. Let's keep pushing for more initiatives like this that honor our roots!
You obviously don't know the meaning of inclusivity. Every cosmopolitan city world over are opening up their space, while one of the the most unlivable cities in the world is shrinking itself further into a backwards tribal cave.

Lagos State should consider the Igbo language as well, since they claim Lagos is their father's land too!!

That is wrong, there are other indigenous ethnic languages in Lagos like Egun, Ijaw and Awori. They should carry them along instead of making it look like Lagos is only indigenous to Yorubas.
You are deliberately spreading highly irresponsible falsehoods here! That's criminal misinformation from you and a distortion of Lagos history.

There are NO indigenous Ijaws in Lagos State! The Ijaws you will find in Lagos are especially migrant fishing communities from especially the Bayelsa axis. (This is just like you have migrant Ilaje-Yoruba fishing communities from the oil and gas-rich Ilajeland in Ondo State living in Lagos for over 100 years now, or the Togolese and Benin Republic fishing settlements at Makoko where French language is mainly used to teach their children in those floating schools on the Lagos Lagoon that you see online). NOT even the iconic Isaac Jasper Adaka-Boro who led the first secessionist group in the 1960s or the iconic Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye of Bonny Island who attended King's College, Lagos Island and who is the father of Ijaw Nationalism ever claimed that Ijaws are indigenes of Lagos in their published books and speeches, NEVER! The Aworis, Ijebus, and Ogus are the only groups listed in the Lagos State creation gazette of 1967 when Lagos State was first created by General Yakubu Gowon's military goverment on May 27, 1967.

The Aworis are proper Yoruba people. Aworis are a prominent sub-group of the Yoruba people and the family compounds from which their ancestors left Ile Ife many centuries back still exist and INFACT, all the Awori Oba of Lagos and Ogun States visited Ife just a few years ago to reconnect with their ancestral roots in Ile Ife. The videos of that visit to Ife by the Awori-Yoruba Oba's of Lagos and Ogun States are still on YouTube! Go and find out the meaning of the prefix "Awo" in AWORI, AWOLOWO, BABA AWO (Babalawo or Ifa priest) then you will know that the Awori name is a strong name among the Yorubas whose ancestors migrated centuries ago from Ife (Ufe) to what is now Ogun and Lagos States.

Second, the Ogus are a subgroup of the Fon and Yoruba people. The Fon people are themselves a mix of Yoruba and Aja ancestries from centuries back. So, Ogus and Yorubas are relatives hence the reason why in a Tunde Kelani documentary interview I watched online that Tunde Kelani had with the Oba of Ajase (Porto Novo) in Benin Republic, the Oba of Ajase CLEARLY stated that the Ogus living in Ajase were allowed to stay with them years back because they are their relatives. Besides a lot of Ogus speak Yoruba in addition to the Ogu language so YOU don't need to stir up misinformation and unnecessary arguments while FALSELY saying that Aworis are not Yoruba... That's an insult to the entire Awori people (whose indigenous lands occupy 17 out of the 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State and also significant LGAs in Ogun State. The Ijebus fully own and occupy 3 Lagos State LGAs out of 20 LGAs (Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki and Ajah). With this coming from you, your post further PROVES one of the bad character flaws or things Prof. Chinua Achebe observed and wrote about the overbearing attitudes of the Ibos in his last book before he passed on. The excerpt from the book is right BELOW:

“I will be the first to concede that the Igbo as a group is not without its FLAWS. Its success can and did carry deadly penalties: the dangers of hubris, overweening pride, and thoughtlessness, which invite envy and hatred or, even worse, than can obsess the mind with material success and dispose it to all kinds of crude showiness. There is NO doubt at all that there is a STRAND in contemporary Igbo behavior that can OFFEND by its NOISY EXHIBITIONISM and DISREGARD for HUMILITY and quietness.” - Chinua Achebe

Public announcements in local language of that state is tribal? English is local language of some people too. But just because they have successfully forced their own 'local' language on you don't mean you can't speak your language, mutherfucka. We won't let go of our identity because of your useless opinion. I'm sure you would welcome it if it was your local language. You can die of inferiority complex but we won't. I wonder if it's English that is language of public announcements in China. Idiot.

In the 70s 80s every igbo born in lagos knows how to speak yoruba but not any more ,igbo person in lagos don't need yoruba language because no igbo person will go to lagos ministry of work to look for job so is of no use, the yoruba language is for old yoruba people, imagine igbos adopting yoruba language like Ghanaians did with ashanti language yoruba go abuse us tire say na their language we dey speak,if they like let them speak egun and yoruba only in lagos na their wahala

The ONE Nigeria which you people have abused constantly needs to define all over again.
So yorubas from osun and ekiti are migrants in lagos. Thank you.

Lagos Government, after over six decades of priding itself as a Government of inclusion, suddenly decided to release an announcement in just one language. Does that spell inclusive to you? undecided
Sorry, we dont give a shittt about inlusion, we are tribal bigots and proud of it. But the question is what are you gonna do about it? the beating yorubas gave all Chinedus in Lagos during election, and even anything that looks like Chinedu collected beatings, what did you do about it? Nothing! and there is absolute nothing you can do about this one either.

How is English language our language ?

And by "our" , who do you mean by this ?

There is a reason why it is called "English language" and it is for the English people who occupy the land of England.

Can you tell us here how this adopted foriegn Lingua Franca is native to any of the nationalities in Nigeria and why an indigenous language being promoted by the Lagos State govt is alien to Lagos state ?

The thing about Marxists is that they require you to lose your heritage or be stripped of it so as to make their conquest over you much easier.

Never ever forget this.

In his infamous Decree 34 speech, Ironsi highlighted erroneously that ethnicity was the bane of national unity and there were future plans to first get rid of all cultural stools and staff of office.

Nothing has changed among his people .

It will seem that a people who lost woefully would have repented from their Marxist foolishness but 50 odd years later they are still doubling down on the foolishness of their war generation.

So Yorubas should ditch their heritage and native tongue to make your more comfortable in their land?

Why don't you start this in your own region by banning your own language and customs and all cultural heritage?

I swear there is something that you guys are not yet forthcoming over Lagos and SW in general.

I am happy Yorubas are now waking up to the Marxist agenda and getting rid of their foolish liberalism.

In a space like Nigeria, cultural preservation is just as important as national preservation - both go hand in hand.

The fact that this policy decision by Lagos state is giving people who are alien to both the state and SW region as a whole headache should tell you their grand ambition.

Well, get ready, it's coming.

Lagos State is gradually letting them know that Lagos is 1000% a Yoruba state.
