This is a technicality. If this woman won an international award such as the Booker prize for literature, South Africans and Nigerians would be claiming her as their own.

When a child knows nothing else but the land of her birth it is wrong to rely on technicalities. South Africans forget that their freedom fighters were given travel documents by the front line states when it was impossible for these men and women to travel on SA passports. These documents were never rescinded.

This young woman is South African in every way but her rejection will open other doors for her.
