Lack of accountability resulting in failure. No set goals and corruption are the bane of our non performance in international competitions. We have world class athletes that can compete with any on the world stage and can win, not just any medal but gold. However, mediocre and godfatherism did not allow us to select, train and present our best.

Forming committees up and down is a complete waste of time and resources. In a sane climate, all those responsible would have been relieved of their duties and fired immediately even including the minister himself.

And here is why, you have convinced yourselves that you are the best tribe in the world, which is great.Ignos are a great part of why Nigerians are so successful abroad, and why foreigners know that we have a can do spirit (of course a few bad eggs still tarnish the Igbo name, but who doesn’t have bad eggs?).

The problem is that because you believe you are so good, if anything goes wrong, you like to believe you were targeted or victimized, instead of accepting your faults and where you went wrong. Accepting your faults is not necessarily a bad thing. Because you can never restrategize to win if you do not accept your faults.

You feel that accepting your faults will make the score 0-1 in favour of your detractors, but the truth actually is that, not accepting your faults will push the s ore to 0-2, and 0-3 and so on.

Please, I’m Yoruba, I love Igbo people, very strongly. So don’t read this as the usual ethnic bias. But if you are not capable of doing that, please feel free to mention me with your insults.

Few points I noted

We were trying to qualify in June 2024 while some nations qualified a year ago

The minister attempt to question the selection process was resisted meaning underhand dealings took place.

We started training in July after qualifications while some nations started 2 years ago.

If over 20 directors and all perm sec are not dropped with the sacking of the minister of sports all this will still play out again in 4yrs time. Many of them should be jailed for fund diversion

Nigeria is already notorious for not fielding their best. The politicking cancer will never allow them to do so. In 2015, they voted for a president who couldn’t find his SSCE results. In 2023, they made another unpleasant choice again. This is the same practice in all the parastatals. They will rather choose people related or associated with them rather than allowing the best to represent the country. The more reason Nigerians are going to represent other countries and winning medals.
