It's about conscientiously critiquing and providing alternatives.
It's not about opening your gutter so they know you're still around. Must you talk?
Is Peter aware that they qualify for Olympics and it's not by invite, where a country nominates mediocre to represent them?
That Nigeria has 88 reps means Nigerian athletes had competed to qualify, and they qualified!
Please Peter, explain "large contingents, favoritism, recklessness and rascality". Ignoramus. And your minions, who don't think too, jumped on the nonsense you wrote.
No doubt Nigeria performance was disappointing. But it's not that athletes were mediocre!
I'll recommend that Nigeria
1. spur representation in sports with many medal potential.
2. Supports athletes off major events so they compete well before major events.... And of course if cost of the Olympic campaign can be further reduced, please do!
a lady called Salwa Eid Naser won silver for Bahrain in the women's 400m event. she is just 26years. actually her real names are Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu. this is her story from Wikipedia:

"At age 11, in her first competitive race in school, she won the 100 m, and then later the 400 m. Her teacher insisted that she would make a good 400 m runner, so she started to focus on the distance. Before Naser was 14, the family moved to Bahrain. In 2014, she switched allegiance to Bahrain, converted to Islam, and changed her name. When asked in 2017 about her move, she said, "past three years have been a great transition for me" and did not wish to comment on her relationship with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. In 2019, she said she was happy that people in Nigeria were celebrating her win."

if she was in Nigeria, what would have been her fate?

Well, has Peter Obi expressed his own disappointment in losing the 2023 presidential elections?

How many times did he support the athletes?

In his lamentations, he failed to proffer solutions. He only claimed the money spent on athletes was more than what was spent in the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Because I am all for solutions and no lamentations, I like to propose as follows:

(1) We can't prepare for an event three months before when we had a clear 4-year window. We need to start preparing for the next Olympics NOW!

(2) We have certain events where we have comparative advantages. For example, swimming amd canoeing. The Niger Delta folks with preparation can easily shine here. Some people expressed surprise that break dancing was part of the Olympics. I am reasonably well traveled and I can say Nigeria has some of the best dancers in the world. We can also stand out in archery and diving given adequate preparation.

(3) We also must revive Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), Nigerian Polytechnic Games Association (NIPOGA), Principal's Cup, National Sports Festival and get corporate organizations to participate.

(4) All tertiary institutions must make two sporting activities compulsory for students, even if it is chess. It helps the mind.

(5) Let universities provide full scholarships for talented student-athletes. They can look for a sport-loving corporate organization to endow such a fund.

(6) As a matter of urgency, let people who are truly passionate about sports take charge of sporting federations.

(7) Let us look at countries doing well and copy what they did. By identifying talents and grooming them, we can make it.

Let me start by stating that I am not disappointed in Team Nigeria. Despite the fact that the female basketball team, D'Tigress, were blocked in the last Olympics by one sports minister, they made a good showing in this year's Olympics, defeating Australia and Canada. Rene Wakama made a brilliant showing and won the best coach at the Olympics. Favour Ofili, we are sorry it did not go as planned. Train harder and you'd only get better. We'd support you the best way we can. Blessing Oborodudu, you came close the last time. We hope you'd get even better. Ese Brume, you won for us before; we have faith in you. The male relay team, you surely learnt your lessons and would avoid the mistakes next time. For the weightlifters, please work harder. For those I might have forgotten, those of us who have had to represent others understand the pressure you faced carrying the burden and hopes of a country.

I believe I speak the minds of sensible Nairalanders and Nigeria when I say:

WE ARE GRATEFUL!

I don't know if you are a parent yet. If you are or aspiring, here is an advise for you:

Your children cannot make you proud all the time. The time they fall short, find out where they missed it and help them improve. Don't castigate or condemn them as failures. Encourage them to be strong and help them prepare better.

No one is happy that our athletes did not win medals. We saw how one broke down in tears and was unhappy with her performance. We saw how they put everything into it.

What separates us from the mob trying to lynch them is our empathy and support. We won't condemn them or use them for political gains as some are trying to do.

Learn empathy. It might help you later in life, because you may fall short at some point.

No one is happy we won Jack.

In my instance, I can't accept anyone saying we would have won a medal if Peter Obi was president when Anambra state couldn't topple Delta, Lagos or Ẹdo states in Sports Festivals.

Peter Obi is not a messiah, Obidients need to stop with the slavish deference to him.

Oga leave Obi. He is not your president or sports administrators. He has every right to complain as a Nigerian. You talk of his proferring solutions when has that ever worked in Nigeria? Why can't you offer solutions? Transferring aggression while you condone mediocrity from those who should be held accountable. As far as your leaders know there are people like you who will support their mediocrity we must prepare for the worst.

The athletes need to adress how they were able to come 2nd on the medals table at the AAG barely 4 months ago only to flop terribly at the Olympics. Something went wrong somewhere, overconfidence or poor preparation

Obi is the one that should leave us alone.

Stop conflating issues. I responded to an Obidient saying if Peter Obi was president, we would have won medals as he takes sports seriously.

Well he can't have taken sports seriously if Anambra didn't topple the big boys during sports festivals.

If anything, you should tell your fellow Obidients to leave him alone.

You Obidients bring him up in some exaggerated saintly mode every single time and expect the rest of us to look away, mba mba mba.

Mr. Peter Obi I'm not even your fan but you are right on this one. Is not even about the money spent but we lack local facilities and our leaders lack passion for sports.

I'm watching Olympic closing ceremony now seeing Nigeria representatives with traditional attire they were even laughing without a single medal imagine!

IOC should have allowed only countries with medal to come out for closing ceremony

No athlete was at the Olympics because of tribalism as suggested by you lots. That's the point! You must have won in the qualifying heats before showing up there!
The argument of representation is not even mentioned by Obi.

You started well concerning giving your solutions. But your finishing is outrightly and totally devoid of meaning. Why should we be grateful for failure? Does that make any sense?
Your last statement is very appalling to sensible tax-paying Nigerians whose money has gone up in flames. 12 billion could be poured to the SMES rather than wasting it on nonsense. We should demand a revolutionary change and declare a state of emergency in the sports industry. Not the saying we are "grateful". Would you be happy if you spend 12 billion naira on a product and 1 single unit was not sold? Would you?
So stop this "Blind fate" nonsense that we are "grateful" The truth is bitter, and we must tell ourselves the truth, we are not grateful for the abysmal and ludacrious performance of the Nigerian athletes. I don't blame the athletes, I blame the sports federation and organisations. So let's call "a spade, a spade" and not sugar-coating the thing. Or do you like wasting 12 billion naira?

PETER OBI IS A DUNCE.

HE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING.

THE FOOL EVEN MENTIONED THE CASE OF THE 'BORROWED BICYCLE'.

NIGERIA WAS NOT SCHEDULED TO PERFORM A SINGLE ROAD RACE, FOR WHICH YOU NEED ROAD BIKES.

NIGERIA WAS IN TRACK RACES, AND HAD TRACK BIKES.

EGYPT WAS DISQUALIFIED AT THE LAST MINUTE IN THEIR ROAD RACE, AND NIGERIA WAS CALLED TO FILL IN THEIR POSITION AT THE LAST MINUTE.

THE GERMANS WHO HAD BIKES FOR ROAD AND TRACK, OFFERED ONE TO THE NIGERIAN GIRL TO USE.

THAT WAS ALL!!

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

UNLESS PETER OBI IS SAYING NIGERIA SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ROAD BIKES WORTH 40,000 DOLLARS EACH, IN ANTICIPATION OF BEING CALLED IN TO FILL IN FOR DISQUALIFIED NATIONS.

BUT HIS BUSH, VILLAGE SIMPLETON PEA BRAIN SAYS ''AH! SHE BORROWED BICYCLE! NIGERIA IS FINISHED!''

BECAUSE HE IS DUMB AS A ROCK AND LACKS BASIC INTELLIGENCE.

HE IS ALSO AN ANTI-NIGERIAN TRAITOR, BECAUSE HE DID NOT BOTHER TO INVESTIGATE THAT INCIDENT BEFORE CONDEMNING NIGERIA FOR IT..

Even small countries like Kenya, South Africa , Uganda, Zambia, Egypt, Jamaica all went home with medals what excuses will apc government now give, did the previous administration also kill sports or did the fuel price increment also impact on sports deliverables.

Very soon Nigerians will realize that apc really has nothing to offer Nigeria in any sector they are performing woefully. Economy is contracting at the speed of light , security sector is already gone , sports sector has shown it is degrading.

Infrastructure is not doing fantastic.

The only thing that seems to be working in Nigeria is the attempt by urchins like Reno , onanugs etc to scapegoat igbos into the descent of the apc government into obscurity
Lament till from now to the next election, Obi will never be the president of this country. Simple! We don't need a religious warlord close to government. He should be roaming around the street with his special Advicers, mad men

The performance of countries generally at the Olympics largely reflects the viability in some economic or political sense. Ours is a case of retrogression which has been ongoing for the past 8+ years. We are moving backwards in most key indicators of growth and the performanc at the Paris 2024 Olympics merely confirms what is happening. There is leadership failure beyond even the politics space. Until we get it right, the regression may not stop. The failure of leadership is like an infection that has weakened most things in Nigeria. The drive, motivation and fighting spirit we were once known for is gradually dying. It starts with getting it right by putting the right leaders across every level of leadership and re-directing our focus to what is important for growth.
