“UK will need Nigerian doctors. 67% of our doctors go to the United Kingdom and 25% of the NHIS workforce is Nigerian.

Not so true. Less than 4% of the NHS is made up of black population including Nigeria

A simple google search will tell you how stupid your minister sounds.
Our leaders should learn how to talk so that these western countries will start taking us seriously.

Nigerian health workers (both doctors and nurses) are not even up to 10% of NHS work force.

Go and verify!
Bro I tire. Less than 4% of the NHS is black including Nigeria.

The minister has his figures totally wrong.

67% of Nigeria doctors in uk might be 1% of uk doctors. Just putting the context there.

I think what Nigeria needs is to allow health workers who finished from public institutions to leave Nigeria after practicing in Nigeria for at least 5 years.

However, they have to pay the Nigerian government an annual support fee of $5k for 5 years. This will go into funding more schools of health across the country, improving their research, improving the working conditions of health workers who still work in Nigeria and increasing the number of such schools across the country. It's a 50-50 deal.
Think before you type pls... why does a government have to place an embargo on anyone leaving Nigeria to further his or her career? That's slavery and deprivation of human rights.

If they want to keep doctors in Nigeria they know what to do. Any doctor who earns above 1m a month will think twice before leaving.

Stop suggesting slavery policies. Everyone should have a right to travel or leave Nigeria when he pleases. If anybody should be stopped from leaving Nigeria it should be the people holding political offices

Why does the government have to ask people to pay taxes? Isn't that wickedness? If you can answer that question, you already know the answer to the first question you asked. You want to attend cheap Nigerian university but don't want to support it! Dey play!!

Thing is, in all honesty, even if theres a pay rise in that sector, say 100% increase, it would still be far lower to what they're being paid in the UK

Presidency should meet the NMA and dialogue with them on what to do to reduce brain drain in that sector, cause as E dey go like this, na mortality rate don dey increase o
has the presidency met with the national assembly and politicians at every level to discuss how they will stop travelling abroad for medical treatment and start patronising only government hospitals which they call "world class" health facilities?

how long should a government official be in government before he or she should be allowed to travel outside nigeria for medical treatment?

has the government prevented tinubu and all other politicians from travelling outside nigeria for medical treatment?

does tinubu and his elite politicians pay the nigerian government an annual support fee for revenue lost by not patronising government hospitals and the doctors you believe were trained by nigeria?

Let the doctors continue running abroad, let them go with all their nuclear, extended and compound family members, if not it is native doctors that will treat their family members left here. Very selfish vagabonds. Nigeria spends millions of Naira to train them, yet they cannot serve Nigeria. Go and find out how much international and even local medical students pay per year in UK and USA, then you will know that our government is not useless in all categories

Anyway, even UK doctors and nurses are running to Australia, Canada and USA because of higher pay, that is to tell you that doctors and nurses are the most greedy animals that the devil created

Why? What do they owe you?

Why can’t this be applied to other professions such as banking, engineering, computer sciences etc

Afterall other countries are far more developed than Nigeria in these aspects and a lot of Nigerians abroad also contribute to the infrastructural development of their host nations.

Why can’t Nigeria then tax all professionals leaving the country?

When you people speak from the depth of your bad belle it shows

A typical non specialized medical doctor in the USA on average earns around $300k a year.

Their schooling costs around $300k for the whole program.

Wouldn’t you say it’s fair for Nigerian doctors to pay exactly the value of their annual salary for the whole duration of their training?

What we have are medical student who pay millions of naira throughout their education and end up earning peanuts. Why are you comparing the cost of training abroad to the cost of training in Nigeria when the income is unequal.

Where’s your common sense?

Go and find out how much medical and nursing students pay abroad and compare to the guguru money they pay here as a result of Nigeria's government funding of their education.

You are comparing education for medical students to that of bankers, do bankers use expensive equipment for training? Do Accountants use expensive equipment for training? You can't pay them £2500 per month. Leave them for NHS that valued them and rewards hardwork

No owing of salaries
No force to implement new min wage

But will they pay the doctors better when they return answer is No.
Will the hospitals be equipped the answer is No
So no need announcing any sane person wouldn't come back to Africa hospitals in general because no President receives treatment in their country

Only UK 67%?
When you add those that go to Australia, Canada, US, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other countries, how many would be left?

God help anyone who is sick in present Nigeria.
So you really believe that 67%? If you add the countries you mentioned...that means over 90%. This is not possible. Common sense should tell the Ministers his figures are exaggerated.

I don’t need to go and find out. I know what I’m talking about.

The money medical and nursing students pay abroad for schooling is commensurate to their income abroad.

The money medical and nursing students pay in Nigeria is far above the guguru money they earn in Nigeria.

What are you not getting?

The solution is simple increase the salaries of doctors by 300% as you did for the judiciary system. This japa syndrome is primarily fueled by lack of substantial salary, allowance, hazard fee etc.

The reason is simply that medicine and its related studies are the world's most expensive courses. In schools like Oxford and Cambridge, you pay about 80 million per annum for the courses. In contrast, in Nigerian universities, it's extremely cheap.

Why the UK government is rushing Nigerian health experts is that their people aren't so interested in studying the course because it's extremely expensive (even for the citizens who pay lesser) while Nigerian practitioners are desperate to leave the country for greener pastures.

If health experts continue to leave this country in droves, Nigeria will be in a big mess. You people are just being emotional; Nigerians will still be the ones to complain that there are no doctors in hospitals when all those folks leave.

BTW, I didn't say they cannot leave. You can only leave after practicing here and it only applies to those who attended public universities.

They pay 80 million per annum in tuition and earn 80 million per annum or more.

Nigerian medical students pay millions and earn pittance
What are you not getting?

If you’re going to compare cost, compare the reward too. If not you’re not making sense. Talking about someone being emotional when you can’t even apply this simple logic to the conversation.

I’m tired of people who don’t make sense trying to say others are emotional when they’re the ones not making sense

They are not up to 0.2% to start with.

They make so much noise about Nigerian healthcare workers migrating abroad whereas Kenyans with lower population than Nigeria migrate more. Kenya now have an Nclex-rn exam center meaning they are even more recognized than these Nigerian noisemakers killing their citizens' chances out of wickedness and senseless policies against Japa.

They keep focusing on the negative side only without looking at the greater side of our Doctors and Nurs
As it stands now Nigeria need at least 60million Nigerians to migrate abroad legally to earn enough FOREX to stabilize Nigeria's economy and to curb mass youth unemployment but these fools in government don't know
u re mad 60m nigeria for what? what an insult because of a nonsense call a forex, western ideology has finished us when we supposed to create our own system and dominate dis world na rubbish africa dey do
