Lagos LGAs Received Highest FAAC Revenue In H1 2024 by dre11(op): 12:34pm On Aug 15, 2024
BY Victor Ejechi

Data from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that all 774 local government areas (LGAs) across the 36 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) received a total net statutory allocation of N1.69 trillion from the federal account allocation committee (FAAC) in the first half of 2024.

TheCable Index’s analysis of the data showed that all 20 LGAs in Lagos received more FAAC revenue compared to others.

Alimosho LGA received N11.13 billion, making it the highest FAAC recipient among the 774 local councils, according to the NBS.

Ajeromi/Ifelodun LGA followed with N8.90 billion, while Kosofe LGA received N8.80 billion in the first half of 2024.

Other top recipients include Mushin (N8.69 billion), Oshodi/Isolo (N8.66 billion), Ojo (N8.58 billion), Ikorodu (N8.41 billion), and Surulere (N8.24 billion).

The lowest earners include Ifedayo LGA in Osun state, which received N1.30 billion, followed by Ilejemeji in Ekiti which got N1.38 billion, and Bakassi in Cross River at N1.39 billion.

Others on the list are Remo north and Ewekoro in Ogun, with N1.42 billion and N1.43 billion allocations respectively; while Atakumosa east and Ila –both in Osun — got N1.43 billion each.

On July 11, 2024, the supreme court ruled that the federal government must directly disburse allocations to LGAs from the federation account.

The court criticised the practice of states creating and controlling caretaker committees, emphasising that LGAs should be democratically elected as required by the constitution.

The apex court also ordered the federal government to withhold allocations of LGAs governed by unelected officials appointed by governors.

Here are the top 35 LGAs in Nigeria by FAAC allocation in the first half of 2024.

Nice one. As it should be.

Most of the Lagos LGA chairman are doing perfectly well as some of them are executing projects that governors from other states dare not venture into.

I’m sure aura for aura, a LG chairman in Lagos has more project than Abia state governor.

Nice.

Lagos LGAs should actually get more than this based on the huge responsibilities our LGAs carry in Lagos.

In most of the other states, LGAs hardly do anything and their workers hardly come to office! They just come at month end and share the allocations

Valentine the chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, what exactly did you do with 7bn Naira you received in 6 months? 90% of roads in Amuwo Odofin are in terrible conditions and no repairs have been done in over 4 years.

If the money raised in Lagos is actually used proportionately to the development of the state, Lagos would being same league of Advanced metropolitan cities like Paris, New York, Rome etc

Re: Lagos LGAs Received Highest FAAC Revenue In H1 2024 by Hemanwel(m): 2:36pm On Aug 15, 2024
Unless I see the criteria or formula that were used for this sharing, I will say this is pure favoritism! Does it mean that if someone from another region becomes the president, LGAs from that person's region will have the highest allocations? Let's call a spade what it should be called! All I see here is a president enriching his region at the expense of others.

Top 20 highest allocations go to Lagos State LGAs?? Haba mana!!!
