"I exhaled, knowing my best friend was feeling the same way I was."

"I learned about her tragic past midway through our friendship, and how she had been mistreated by her adoptive parents, who gave her the name 'Ayo'."

Most of your main characters are victims of abuse.

But Ayo is not the main character ooo. Adanna is. Ayo is only a supporting female character.
