Just imagine what a supposedly educated fellow is saying. Nigeria is really filled with jokers who kept on underpaying the degradation of Nigeria’s National life from all facets.

The only thing that will stop people from wanting to leave the country is if there is significant improvement in the economy of the country undecided

Japa is everywhere. address the exchnage rate and the infrastrucutre. It will stop. Those two cannot be addressed except there is good leadership in the country. So address the leadership question.

Even if govt increases health workers salaries to 1m monthly, who wants to Japa will Japa. Everybody wants a good life and system that works. Nigeria is a failed country and can never work.

Not really sure what to think about this.

On the one hand, this is an idea that might work for many rural areas, on the other hand, a SHO can't really replace a doctor.

What do you expect in a country that puts politics ahead of everything.
They politicze our education, health, economy, agriculture and so on.
We are in for a very long ride into oblivion.

Can the replacement meet the pace at which they japa?

People with 5 to 10 years experience are relocating and you want to replace them with fresh graduates with little or no experience?

Let's wait and see

We should actually establish more institutions to churn out more medical graduates (across all sub-fields) for export. Greater remittances, more avenues to learn new techniques and grasp knowledge. I betoken that more japa folks will return within a decade, with their return, they come with a higher skill-set and experience.

The Philippines, India, Nepal and Indonesia do this. We should do the same. India even has ease of work visas as part of any trade agreement it wants to sign with another country.

I think it's the way the reporter presented it.
I was shocked when I saw health technologist replacing dr's, but read further to see that he was talking about primary health care and middle level manpower, so majorly rural areas, moreover, even govt dey employed home trained nurse, which we majorly call auxiliary nurse, for such purposes cry

Abeg how is that a solution to the brain drain? You'll only be replacing professionals with neophytes. Thus at some point, few professionals might be available to transfer the relevant knowledge.

Also, why will an institution established by a state govt be calling for FG intervention when their state governor is few kilometres away? The governors create all sorts of institutions to score political points yet refuse to provide adequate funding. As it stands today, most state universities can't thrive without TETFUND support. This is nothing but lethargy by the state governors.

I feel like slapping you. The reason why people japa is simply poor remittance in terms of thier wages, poor security and bad hospital infrastructure.
Imagine most Federal Medical Centre don't have a defibrillator.

You can't effectively stop human migration. People get out of North Korea, even.

What we need to do is to get our universities to increase their capacity to admit more students to study medicine instead of dispersing the thousands of applicants to less viable courses. We can have enough for home use and export.

We have the population and there's nothing wrong in exporting manpower.

Even animals migrate for food and to breed in conditions that the future are brighter for their offspring.
As long as the welfare in NIGERIA doesnt improve, migration "JAPA" will never stop.
