Barely 24 Hours after a truck rammed into a vehicle and a pedestrian in the Lafenwa area of Ogun State, two persons were killed when a truck crushed a tricycle in the Papalanto area of the state.

The Accident, according to the spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, occurred in the early hours of Friday.

Akinbiyi attributed the cause of the accident which involved an Iveco Truck with number plate KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle with number plate TRE 627 VP, to dangerous driving by the truck driver.

He added that four people including two males and two females were involved in the accident with the two females crushed to death.

Akinbiyi said, “According to an eyewitness account, the truck in an attempt to overtake the tricycle while both were in transit inbound Abeokuta, around Papalanto, dragged the tricycle along with it by the side in the process with the tricycle falling in its front before running over it, killing a grandmother and her granddaughter.

“The two victims were the only occupants in the tricycle on the spot. Regrettably, the truck driver escaped from the scene before being arrested.”

The TRACE spokesman added that the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families while warning motorists against dangerous driving.

He added, “The injured tricycle driver has been rescued to an unknown hospital by a good samaritan. Moreover, the accident vehicles have been deposited at the Itori Divisional Police Command.

“While TRACE and the police commiserate with the families of the deceased, motorists are again charged to avoid dangerous and reckless driving given its attendant consequences.”

🤦Truck drivers that are supposed to be the most careful drivers are usually the ones driving like mad people!!!

I was expecting to read that the owner of the truck was arrested until he produced the escaped truck driver for prosecution.

RIP to them

This menace of recklessness by truck drivers needs to be checked.

You see them driving like mad men in Mowe, ibafo, berger and even on the lagos-ibadan expressway. I normally run away from them.

This week, I still saw one driving a truck as of it's a sports car. He was swerving and squeezing into tight spaces, I even thought he had lost his brakes. If we keep allowing this, then there will be more accidents.

Blind spot.. the Truck driver most likely didn't see the tricycle

Ogun state government better do something about these trucks sharing the road with small vehicles.
This is almost a daily occurrence.

That's not the point, just let's be disciplined on the use of vehicles and roads as God has given us ability!

We are not ready yet as a country. No traffic regulation, 98% of the people behind wheels didn't undergo test before jumping on the road, we don't even value life. A typical Nigerian driver prefer to match the brake for a cow than to give way for a human like him.
The people that supposed to be in charge of the roads are undoubtedly corrupt, they are in love with their usual #200.

Now tell me, are we really ready as a country?
