Poultry business: Poison fails to kill man indebted to N1.2m,police intervene


In a dramatic turn of events, the Anambra State Police Command has rescued a young man who attempted to take his own life due to financial hardship.

Alozie John, a 27-year-old livestock trader from Ebonyi State, was found to have ingested a poisonous substance in a bid to escape his debts.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on August 23, 2024, when the command intercepted a distressing WhatsApp message from John, revealing his intention to end his life due to an overwhelming debt of N1.2 million to his supplier.

Promptly responding to the situation, the police debriefed John, provided medical assistance, and took him into safe custody for monitoring.

His mother has since been contacted and is cooperating with the authorities to ensure her son receives proper care and evaluation at a specialized facility.

This heart-wrenching incident highlights the growing concerns of financial stress and its devastating consequences.

The Anambra Police Command has demonstrated remarkable compassion and swift action in saving John's life, offering a beacon of hope in his darkest hour.
