Neoliberalism. Same way Oby ezekwesili proposed the sale of Unity Schools to private proprietors as minister of education. Neoliberalism isnt a good economic system, but the idea behind the creation of unity colleges has long been defeated, as slots are now mostly traded to the elite who choose prime colleges like kings and queens colleges and leave the less attractive ones for the poor. I am actually ambivalent about this. |

Private schools in my neighborhood don't pay such a ridiculous amount for school fees. Is it not better to attend a private school nearest to you than pay almost half a million on school fees for Federal schools? |

Kelklein:I honestly don't think it can be true at all. This is the same Ministry of Education that only days ago claimed that it had sent 4,000,000 out-of-school kids back to school in just one year, a claim that is yet to be verified by any independent source, mind you. For the same to stupidly suggest privatization of this kind is preposterous. This is saying children of the poor should not even dream of attending any of the 104 unity schools in Nigeria. I am not a parent of a child in Nigeria but if I were, this would get me up in arms. This is the same administration responsible for reducing 10s of millions of Nigerians to where they are today. |
