Hello, it’s Mia Farms with another great lecture wrapped up in a post! The rains are here again, and the August break is over, especially in the southwest. It’s time to get your farm ready for planting.

Steps to Prepare Your Land for Cassava:

1️⃣ Choose a flat site that isn’t waterlogged or stony. Slash and plough older fallow with trees, shrubs, or broad leaves.
For grass fallow with tough weeds like Speargrass or Siam Weed, slash and wait two weeks for regrowth.

2️⃣ Apply Glyphosate: (e.g., RoundUp, TouchDown) on regrown grass or low vegetation (under 1 meter). Wait 1-2 weeks for it to work fully.

3️⃣ Tillage: Ploughing can increase root yield by 5 tonnes/ha, and ridging by 4 tonnes/ha. Choose based on cost-benefit.

4️⃣ Planting: Plant when the soil is moist, spacing 1m between rows and 0.8m within rows. Apply a pre-emergence herbicide like Primextra Gold within 24 hours. Replace cuttings that don’t sprout after 2-3 weeks.

5️⃣ Weed Control: When weeds cover 30% of the field at the 4-6 leaf stage, use post-emergence control like herbicides, mechanical, or manual weeding.
For grass-dominated fields, apply Fusilade Forte (3L/ha) under the cassava canopy. Use glufosinate ammonium for mixed weed infestations, but shield cassava plants to avoid damage.

We sell quality TME419 cassava stems and other farm inputs like plantain suckers, oil palm seedlings, etc. We also offer business plans, training, consultation, and farm setup services. Contact Mia Farms today to get started!
