Please someone should educate me on this government Agency, NIA. Nigeria intelligence agency? How are they different from the DSS? What roles do they play in National security? Do they carry arms like the DSS?

They are supposed to be Nigeria's version of the CIA, helping with high level internal and foreign security, intelligence and diplomacy... Unfortunately those entrusted with the organisation's mandate of leadership have been visionless and it's been proven to be another office to siphon federal funds.

The DSS on the other hand are primarily meant to protect the interest and security of the presdient and governors, they also help with internal security, working closely with the police and military, but they are far more active than the NIA.

Despite all these, kidnappings, banditry, killer herdsmen are growing on a daily basis, with all the security agencies like the NIA, DSS, Military, Police and NSCDC, no intelligence whatsoever. They have destroyed the security architecture of the country with nepotism and negative politics.

NIA works. If only you know their modus operandi. They are also undercover agents in most security outfits in the country and organisations of interest. They are mostly dead spy wherein you hardly identify them like DSS. Someone equated them to CIA, and that's the truth. They are more overt than covert ensuring that job credits are given to sister agencies to avoid exposure.

They work, the reason you don't hear about the is because they work in secret as their work should be.

Nobody said they didn't, the emphasis is on their effectiveness. If they were effective, gathering enough intel, Nigeria wouldn't be dealing with so much insurgency... Nobody is telling them not to work in secrecy, we know how it works.

For you to fully understand what Nigeria is going through, you have to look at the situation in the North. Religion and politics plays a role, the border is porus, instability in the general area as the region up to Niger, Chad, Mali etc.

The situation is complex, but as for the internal insecurity, I think a new approach is needed.
