Peterlove11:If you have a small budget it's best to go for lead acid which serves it's own purpose. For example, Luminous Voltcharge tubular battery is rated at 1,600 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. That's roughly 4.3 years lifespan and works out to 9.7 naira per kWh if you cycle it once a day. Average lifepo4 batteries like felicity have 3,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge and cost around 1.3m for a 5kwh battery. It works out to 10.8 naira per kwh if you also cycle it once per day. So you can see that cost per kilowatt hour wise there is little difference. Performance wise lifepo4 main advantage over tubular are it's tolerance for high current charging, it's lightweight and relatively low maintenance requirements. |

abuzz33:Glad to see you added this, because they're exactly what make Lifepo4 a better deal regardless of any possible #/kwh disadvantages. It's just superior technology at the end of the day. The fact that the #/kwh is even so close is a bonus. |

Obnoxious2001:Several Business Operators don't value the importance of After Sales Support and it's very bad. I recently got 4 units of 12V/220Ah Tubular Batteries through a friend in Lagos. When the Batteries got to me I tested and noticed one of the Batteries was reading 10V. I notified my Friend but I was encouraged to carry on with the installation hoping that once it is properly charged it will work as expected. But weeks after the Installation my Clients began to complain of the poor backup time despite reasonable charging. I quickly revert back to my Friend he asked me to return that particular Battery that is reading low. I returned it and I was told they won't replace it or refund but they will charge it and send it back. Seeing how time consuming the whole thing was going I decided to buy a new Battery from another Dealers and install to replace that single unit for my Client. After weeks of charging the faulty Battery the Battery was still reading as low as, 11V and when tested with a Battery Tester it drops to as low as 8V. The Dealer has seen the whole thing and I am suggesting they replace or refund even if it's not up to 80% of the money, they are insisting I go with the faulty Battery or the give me 45k for something I bought over 200k in May. |

|
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Iinnov8: 12:08pm On Aug 27, 2024 |
abuzz33:Correction: Most Grade A LiFePO4 lithium batteries give 6,000 cycles at 80% DoD. Then 3,000 cycles at much lesser DoD, which amounts to over 8 years of daily cycling while losing little or none of its capacity. See data sheet of Powmr 100a 12.8v battery Tubular batteries will hardly take that kind of abuse and that's a major difference between both technologies

Iinnov8:Most lifepo4 batteries in the Nigerian market are not grade A and those that are are very expensive. Powmr has a history of fudging numbers and poor quality. I take their 6,000 cycles with a grain of salt. As for lifepo4 it's a superior and more flexible technology for lots of applications. But basic stuff lead acid is perfectly ok. I use both and this was the second set of luminous batteries I bought. The inverlast battery I used for 5 years and it was still as strong as ever. Luminous is a great rugged brand and testament to this is the fact that schneider bought them out. |

abuzz33:1. Don't be quick to generalize this. 2. Basic stuff is what clients will say they want until they start abusing the pack, and many marketers are not helping. 3. 5 years and running means you have the adequate know-how and proper size and take all the measures the lead acid today is not the same quality as 5 years ago. I am not sure you will continue with lead acid if you need to change the batteries in future. addition: It is not POWmr claiming 6000 Cycles, they don't make cells. see below the claims from REPT manufacturer of the Cells POWMr used.

| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dam5reey(m): 1:18pm On Aug 27, 2024 |
Overall pack performance is not determined by Grade A cells alone. There are a lot of factors that make a high-performance Battery pack. |

abuzz33:You see this person you quoted said lot and lot until he tasted it. Now he is a marketer. If you haven't tasted it, dont say anything. I have tasted both and it was delicious . Why buy battery for just lightings and charging? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by isangjohnson: 3:05pm On Aug 27, 2024 |
abuzz33:I may say that we're always at liberty to make choices based on certain circumstances we find ourselves, including financial constraints. Some set of people have taste of high quality solar products and they know how and where to get them, but they don't have the required cash to get to it. They have no options than to go for what they can afford provided there's light at home to power basic appliances. Some other set of people have taste of high quality products and they have the money but they don't know how and where to get them. they don't even have time for little research. These set of people are easily deceived. IMO, it pays to do thorough investigation/research/consultations before putting heard earned cash into anything. Again, I doubt if there is any product/appliance in Nigerian market that doesn't have fake quality. I know some of my friends that also bought bought fake luminous batteries..... |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Iinnov8: 3:29pm On Aug 27, 2024 |
abuzz33:You have indicted Felicity as being average. You have also condemned Powmr. Have you really used LiFePO4 lithium batteries before? Which one do you recommend as being Grade A? Powmr has proven itself to be a reliable brand - from its old and best-selling HHJ charge controller to its new M60 controller and its recent array of hybrid inverters. Most of the reviews on their products are positive Also, I have had one of our contributors here do a capacity test on the Powmr LifePo4 cells (which are actually Rept cells as pointed out by someone up there) and it performed more than its rated capacity. The video has been posted here. The insides of the Powmr battery has also been opened to show the cells and the QR code scanned. The video has also been posted here We have also concluded a 1C (1200w+) discharge test on the battery while showing the individual cells maintaining the same voltage as they approached the lower knees of the discharge curve (close to 100% DoD), and the video will be posted shortly. According to experts here, that is the litmus test to know Grade A cells. See video excerpt attached Do you have such test results and videos for your tubular battery?
