How will a black soldier be safer in North Korea than South Korea or any other country? I'm sure it all has to do with his mental health status as he would have chosen a saner place if all was well with him

with other spies after many taunting shows on government media houses.

From the writeup about his other behaviours, the man appears to either resent being in the army or has mental issues.
Though resenting the army doesn't make sense here, since he wasn't forced to join.

Possibly an emerging or full blown physchosomatic person that is yet to be identified.

He’s still an American but not your typical American. That is why he had more leniency. A white American would have been treated worse or been in jail for a long time.
