ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON JUST BECAUSE HE RESIGNED FROM HIS JOB

This is Nicholas, a 26-year-old graduate, photographer and Keyboardist.

Sometime in October 2023, Nicholas sent a text message to his boss resigning his role as a photographer in the photo studio.

His boss was angry at the content of the text message and got him arrested.

After spending 2 days in police detention, he ended up being charged with "intentional insult", and locked up in a room with 189 other cellmates at a prison in Keffi because he could not afford the bail sum initially N100,000 and later N50,000.

He remained there even after the said boss, a politician in the current administration and owner of a popular photography studio in FCT wrote a letter to the court withdrawing the charge.

Two weeks ago, someone hinted hashtag#hopebehindbar about Nicholas's plight, and hashtag#thehassanian (X Handle = @thehassanian) reached out to a friend of his who donated N50,000 anonymously.

The first picture is a picture of Nicholas 2 months before prison, the second is a picture of him when we got him out last week, and the third is a picture of him at the hashtag#hopebehindbar office today. - Funke Adeoye

Well, a search on the alleged Boss of Nicholas revealed some disturbing facts as contained in Frames 4 - 5.

We can't continue this kind of high-handedness. The reckless manner in which agencies of the state are abused simply because some persons are "Oga", "Big Men", etc, needs to stop.

How on earth is resignation from employment enough grounds to waste 10 months of someone's life, not to even mention the psychological, mental, emotional and physical trauma?

And this man calls himself a "Christian" for God's sake!!!

The most evil people on earth are the most religious ones. Religion is directly proportional to hypocrisy and wickedness.

But why bring tribe into this? Are there not enough wicked igbos already doing evil ?

Nigeria's problem is not religion. We have a battered justice system. Anyone who has as little as 20k in his account can manipulate the law enforcement machinery to do their bidding. A neighbour can have you incarcerated for several days over a mere harmless argument because they know it's a porous system. Nigeria will never see light until justice is entrenched in its culture.

Everyone takes advantage of a weak system to flex tiny muscles. Just look at the manner in which politicians obtain injunctions and counter-injunctions from our law courts. Judgments flying here and there. Courts of equal jurisdiction daily issue conflicting orders on the same matter. Pathetic! Nigeria is not a country. Most people don't know yet.

Nigerian environment gives birth to outlaws and reprobates.

What was the content of the resignation letter?
I think we should start from there before judging.
Anger and being vengeful is human nature, so the people you call pastores are just humans like you.

As a matter of fact, you can leave a job without a resignation letter. If you get tired or frustrated, you can just walk away and never go back

To be honest we are all just humans. So far the man wrote to withdraw the case, he has done his part to move on. I'm sure the guy has learnt his lesson. Nigeria is not an easy place to raise 20k talkless of 50k... let people learn to stay out of Trouble

Though that is not enough reason for the police to keep him in detention for months. On the other hand, is it police fault? He was charged to court as normal but no one could raise a 100k for his bail condition till he spent those numbers of month.

Firstly, I think something is actually wrong with you.
Let's assume the worker resigned and the boss finds the tone insultive. So that has now become a criminal offense? Omoo....una deserve the shege biko.
Before you talk, its important you understand I have staff in three countries and two continents. Only those in Africa resigns without proper notice, hand over or transfer of duties, and sometimes I feel bad because of the months I suse in teaching them my business principles that kept us long....but damn, if you like insult me, that's your business and it's good riddance to bad rubbish.

So what happened to civil suit? I hope you don't fall victim one day! Karma has a way of reaching out!

I have been somewhere someone called the police emergency line to report something, after a few questions on the phone, the police hanged up on her because they quickly perceive she was up to no good, drinking and possibly wants to intimidate thew guy because the law favors women here... I couldn't help but smile at how the police created a hurdle for her to cross if she wants to call in the police! training is the key though, and next is paying them well...

People insult the British monarch daily... people insult HE Peter obi daily, People insult Asiwaju daily, people insult Donald Trump daily...these are leaders, people with means, yet they never arrest anybody, na this one wey be like who never eat better food well, naim dey arrest person! Hahahahaha... its actually a crime here if you walk away from your job without resignation according to the contract terms. it's called Derelick of Duty. Also, you can't just fire someone just like that after passing the probabtory three months period. anyway, that's why they are called developed countries.

So did this issue that you posted happened over there or occurred here in Nigeria?

He was behind bars because he couldn't afford petty N100k bail? Which was later reduced to N50k? Not to help another person oh,to bail himself from the hellish Nigerian cell,and he couldn't afford it?
What of his friends and relatives? Go and check Nicholas Instagram or Facebook,you will likely see flashy pictures denoting he's living the life,just to give others impression that he's doing better than others.
