Why The Igbo Could Rebuild After The Civil War- MINORITY RULE and Obasanjo by babasolution(op): 3:16pm On Aug 28, 2024
There' are few reasons why the Igbo were able to rebuild after the civil war.
It has only a little bit to do with the Igbo race themselves actually.

The reasons are,
1. The war was prosecuted by a minority ruler ( Gowon). Who strategically prosecuted the war to cause minimal damage to the igbos. More people were lost due to starvation than the actual fighting( it was mostly children that suffered from the war and died). There was minimal damage to Igbo cities and wealth. The 20£ story is over exaggerated. The igbos did not start from scratch.Gowon ,a minority man was able to apply strategic tactics to prevent serious damage to the Igbo.Infact Nigeria suffered too much losses from his methods of gentle ,careful prosecution of the war.

2.Shagari emergence in 1979 with Alex ekuweme as VP.Alex ekuweme was in charge of economy. He made policies that favoured the igbos by encouraging importation over domestic production. He knew that the Igbo domestic capacity had dwindled after the war,so the best option for the re-emergence of the Igbo was for them to be big players in the importation business. Igbos well received this economic model and took to importation. Alex ekuweme simultaneously gradually killed the domestic capacity of production in other regions completely ruining their economy by this the Igbo were well positioned to catch up with other regions despite being victims of the war.

Here's the catch.
The fact that the igbos were pragmatic enough to take advantage of the Alex ekuweme ECONOMIC model was to their credit and they deserve praise for that.

The fact that other regions didn't recognise this ECONOMIC hitjob and subsequent rulers couldnt change this model was to their loss.

In summary, despite the arrogance of the igbos it is pertinent to note that their positive re-emergence out of the civil war were more because of external factors than their quality as a people.

Alex Ekwueme, a Vice-president, made policies that made Igbos rebuild? You actually think a Vice-president has powers to make policies?

So how come all those who have been Presidents since the end of the war, 55 years ago, have not made policies that would them grow much more?

I stated the reasons, Alex ekuweme as VP was placed in charge of the economy by shagari.

I also mentioned, that subsequent rulers are guilty for not addressing that ECONOMIC model since then

OK, if a Vice-president can do that, why have all those who have been President for 55 years not done more than that to uplift their people?

This was specifically shagari arrangement, not necessarily the arrangements of other presidents, you know that after shagari there were back to back military rulers

Other parts of Nigeria, who were not devastated by war, have produced Presidents for the last 55 years, and had the opportunity to be ahead, but they are no better than Igbos

Igbo success story is beyond the coast of Nigeria. they are exceling every where they are, and beyond the shores of Nigeria.
How come the tribe who had all the millions at their disposal were sleeping when the men with GBP20 over took them?
no matter how bad or good your policies, they are well prepared to over come it.
what can be more challenging than the last 2 administrations, Buhari and Tinubu?

Gowon's genocidal war against ndi Igbo was intentional as he implemented and enforced economic blockage that killed millions of civilians.
After the war Gen Gowon failed to implement the famous 3Rs policy that would have seen to the recovery of the devastated region.

Textile is importation is band in Nigeria

They are taxed over 100% on import

Textile industry died in the 1990 when they could not compete because of lack of investment

Go through my write-up logically, my point is the igbos were not as badly decimated by the civil war as portrayed because a minority ruler prosecuted the WAR, if a Fulani was in power it would have been a different story.and also Alex ekuwemes time,kick-started and propelled the Igbo resurgence.

The op is just saying what he think , after dragging colos .
Let me tell you what helped the Igbos since you're ignorant .
Other tribe give there young people fish and hide the way to the river , so they can be worshiped as the only alhaji in town .
But the Igbos took there young ones in on a daily and show them the way to the river and also teach them how to fish .
House , feed and clothe them for years while they fish for them .
Then settle them with enough net to go fort and catch there own fish .
The young ones , haven grown , will pick the coming generation to show them the way to the river .

This is our story .
It's not sentiment , it's what's on ground
