In 2012, Tinubu, then in opposition and for thoroughly selfish political reasons, led protests against a sitting government. He wasn't demonized and it was called PATRIOTISM.

In 2024, Tinubu is now in power. His government is far, far worse than the government he led protests against. Hunger, inflation, insecurity and corruption on a scale never seen before in Nigeria is now the norm. Yet when the masses come out, for legitimate reasons, to cry about the hardship brought about by 'Tinubunonics', they are called TRAITORS and words like 'TREASON' and 'SABOTAGE' are used.

A Yoruba adage, roughly translated, says "the murderer will not allow anyone pass his back with a knife."
Shameless Confused Things, Tinubu Indeed led protest organized by the NLC in 2012 to protest removal of petrol subsidy by Jonathan?

Law is not 1+1=2. the law is not solely guided by the constitution and acts of the national assembly. While these are significant sources of law, they are not the only ones.

Here are some other important sources of law:

Regulations: Rules created by administrative agencies to implement statutes.
Common Law: Laws developed through court decisions over time, based on precedent.
Treaties: Agreements between nations.
Customary Law: Laws that have developed over time through common practice.

In many legal systems, the constitution establishes a framework for the government and outlines fundamental rights and freedoms. However, the specific laws that govern daily life are often derived from these other sources, which can be interpreted and applied in ways that may not be explicitly stated in the constitution or national assembly acts.

We also have laws for specific purposes such at the ones establishing National Intelligence Agency (NIA) for external threats, State Security Services & equivalents for internal threats. These instruments come into play when certain acts are committed.

From the post, "They were alleged to have committed acts of terrorism, treason, and treasonable felonies, including arson and terrorism.

The police said the offense was contrary to Sections 2(1) and (3), 24 and 26 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022; Sections 41 and 42 of the Criminal Code Act; Sections 410, 411, and 412 of the Penal Code Act; and Section 4 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and other enabling statutes.

The court will have to decide.

Kobojunkie:
But there is no law against carrying a Russian flag during a protest. And no, you cannot and should not be arrested for a crime that is not established in an Act by the National Assembly or the National Constitution. undecided

Here's the thing... next time, try to cut past all of the crud yourself so I don't have to do it for me abeg! undecided

Second, I believe I was clear enough! I asked you a direct question, "What law exactly depicts the carrying of the flag of a foreign nation as a crime of terrorism abi na treason you call am?" Don't read back the OP to me. Show me you actually know your law(and maybe your rights). Be specific! undecided

October 1st moves grin
The fears has set in
Why else would they think to remand the people for 60 days. The worst is that if nothing is found on these people, most of them, not knowing their rights would not seek compensation for their troubles and the unjust treatment in following Section 35(6) of the Nigerian Constitution. undecided
Section (6) of Nigerian Constitution Any person who is unlawfully arrested or detained shall be entitled to compensation and public apology from the appropriate authority or person; and in this subsection, "the appropriate authority or person" means an authority or person specified by law.

In that case you might as well put on your wig and gown and show up in court as amicus curiae. The judges will gladly enlighten you better on how the process works,

I have provided you what is relevant at this point, those with the training, real experience & judicial responsibility will decide. Any other position is hot air and empty online grandstanding with large room for goalpost shifting. I can't control what you find acceptable or not and quite frankly you are inconsequential on this, and me too. The court will decide, simple grin
