No fewer than 72 illegal crude oil refining sites were uncovered in the past week, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited disclosed in a video report.

The 72 illegal refineries were reportedly discovered and destroyed in Rivers, Delta and Abia states.

On August 18, a vessel was said to have been arrested by men of Operation Delta Safe with 12 suspects on board in the Southern Ijaw area of Bayelsa State.

“The tugboat was caught loaded with stolen Shell Petroleum Development Company flow lines, which shows that not only did the thieves break the pipelines in order to connect their pipes, but they also harvested oil pipelines as well,” the NNPC said.

It revealed that the 12 arrested suspects were in custody for further investigation.

It was added that 46 vessel automatic identification system infractions were recorded at sea, while 24 wooden boats conveying stolen crude were apprehended in Rivers and Bayelsa States.

The state-owned energy firm stated that on land, several vehicles loaded with stolen crude were apprehended in Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa States.

In the past week, 33 illegal connections were uncovered in the three states.

Eight cases of oil spill were recorded as a result of vandalism in the period under review, while 12 sites used for storing stolen crude and illegally refined products were uncovered.

From August 17 to 23, 204 incidents of oil theft were recorded by different incident sources.

“47 of the incidents took place in the deep blue water, 10 in the western region, 100 in the central region and 47 in the eastern region,” it was disclosed.

A total of 42 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

When did NNPCL become a refinery regulator?

NNPCL is not a refinery regulator and claims to be privatised to avoid accountability...

NNPCL has 4 non functional refineries

If this NNPC is sincere in fighting oil theft and illegal refineries, why is it that this NNPC never mentions the names of the owners of those vessels and those refineries?

72 in one week? This is quite a disturbing number. That means there are still many more that have not been discovered. This is one of the reasons why there is fuel scarcity in the country, while the neighboring countries where they take these crude to are getting it nyangayanga.

North gold and other natural resources is controlled by illegal miners/bandits with no threats from government but what's belongs to Niger delta can't be touch by the people, it's owners? The North in collaboration with selfish South politicians are taking Niger deltas for a fool.

If you must stop us stop those in North too.
Re: 72 Illegal Refineries Uncovered In One Week – NNPC by flexyrule(m): 7:59am On Aug 29, 2024
Most of these refineries and bunkering activities are operated with the knowledge of our security forces. If you have any personnel serving around riverine areas, ask them. They'll tell you how they seized a boat, and an order from above was given for its release.

Meanwhile, when will we have this same energy channelled towards all the mineral resources that are being mined illegally in the North?

So the North can lord over their resources, while the South remain the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Let everyone control their resources. Enough of all this one-sided holiness!..

As NNPC has failed to refine crude let the illegal refineries help them do their work.

How are these refineries even getting crude oil?
How can NNPC not be able to monitor crude pipelines to intercept leakages before they become significant
