It is not easy to see a gambler that is stable in his actions.
Accountancy requires stability and integrity.
I won't hire him

I'll employ him as long as he's suitably qualified for the position, everyone (including the MD & the HR) most certainly has their own devils they're hiding from people's public glare. Whereas this young man seeking for employment is even bold and courageous enough to have been open about his addiction (w/c in my opinion is not even a SIN by any means or standard, except when it has taken the place of God and his service in his life). Mind you, people play all kinds of lottery (including Crypto trading, FX trading, even if your name is in any form of pool system where a prize is to be won or awarded, you're simply a lottery player, be it Visa lottery, Canada EE, PNP, and what have you, so long as you're there to be picked, it's called lottery and all of 'em share the NLB as it's regulatory body)
The fact that he can't control his gambling habit or "addiction" as you've described it, to the point where he needs to indulge in it while waiting for an interview - combined with the fact that as part of his role, he will be managing the company's finances is a very big red flag.

He would probably gamble with the company's money grin

Or probably just trying to proof his capacity and capability to take on high risk investments cheesy

Its 50/50

Modified

I started off as an analyst.... Was so interested in understanding human psychology and predicting events.... My journey took from the financial world to the security market.... I started testing out predictive models i created on different project and task.... And ended up developing softwares used in the security sector.... On the down low, I traded currencies and stocks utilizing my analytical experience and some where along the line started testing out my model on sports.... My underlying proof of concept is that every team have individuals connected psychologically.... The external stress on the psychological network of the team varies thus causing the random nature of sports..... Now how relevant are those insignificant numbers bookies put up is now up to the individual....

So to the uninformed mind betting is dangerous and takes you to a very dark place...... To an informed mind you can look at it from multiple angles.... For example I provide some online casinos with gaming software.... While I bet when the condition favors me and never on those annoying numbers bookies put up..

Luckily I haven't seen any of my staff exhibiting characters that will be pointing as betting... Also 70% of Nigerian men bet.... Especially ages under 30

Its a complete redflag, someone going to interview must mindful of, not only what he/see would say at venue, but also, the kind of cloth to wear, his/her interpersonal relationship with the rest interviewees and interviewers as well, infact, the food he would eat from home, bcoz of running stomack , not to talk of the kind game or video he would play or watch at venue.

ACOUNTANT PLAYING BETTING GAME IN THE VENUE OF INTERVIEW, very odd thing to do, only federal ,state or local govt in naija would go ahead to recruit such individual.

All thēse criterial are the things that interviweers normal watchout for, to select the best of the best candidate and not only academic performances.

Thou in naija na who you know sha.
that's y I will rather do business no matter how small it is than to go n b doing all these to get a job u can b fired from any moment

That he's open about it is even a bigger problem. I hope you don't act surprised when you find out his addiction to gambling is uncontrollably and your company's account statement is not balancing anymore.

That is his personal life I'm only interested in what he is going to add to my business in positive way and to be on the balance I will only hire him on contract 3months first then review it before signing additional months for proper audit and monitoring apart from that I don't really care he play lotto or pool.

there are attitudes that will hinder one from delivering, this is one of them...

What goes on daily in workers personal life actually affects job delivery...

They have a good and happy life..they perform better..

They have a pressured life, filled with uncertainties,...they perform woefully.

When you have a high performing employee, suddenly dropping in Key Performance Index, as a boss ..you have to ask questions about his personal life.

In other words, you can't remove employees personal life from performance!

That’s his personal stuff na. The problem in Niaja is that there are so many applicants for few jobs so now hiring managers and HR feel they are mini gods

That's an interesting scenario! While it's not uncommon for people to engage in leisure activities during breaks or downtime, the fact that the accountant is browsing Bet9ja (a betting platform) while waiting for a job interview raises some concerns.

As the MD or HR, I would consider the following factors before making a decision:

1. Professionalism: Is this behavior reflective of his professional attitude and work ethic?
2. Judgment: Does his decision to engage in betting activities during an interview wait time demonstrate good judgment?
3. Integrity: Could this behavior be indicative of potential integrity issues or conflicts of interest in his work?
4. Distractibility: Might his focus on betting activities distract him from work responsibilities or impact his productivity?

Considering these factors, I might still choose to interview him to assess his qualifications, skills, and fit for the role. However, I would also want to discuss this incident during the interview to understand his perspective and gauge his level of self-awareness and accountability.

Ultimately, the decision to hire would depend on his overall performance during the interview, his ability to address my concerns, and whether I believe he would be a good fit for the company culture and values.

I never begin work, you don dey spy on me.

Please no hire me o. I don't need monitoring amebo managers.
Re: If You Are The MD And HR, Would You Hire Him? by ponletobby: 1:24pm On Aug 29, 2024
The only reason why I will not employ him is if I am to employ him in a position that deals with money putting the business or organization at risk, otherwise everybody have their own bad side. So far his habit will not affect the business or organization, we are good.

I am also a trained accountant for your info!

There is no way I would knowingly employ a gambler to be in charge of financial resources of my company or business!

So u believe how one live his life has nothing to do with the output he delivers. So u have no prob if u employ me as a front desk officer in your child care company, and I stink of Igbo and alcohol every time.
