Bandits Kill Man In His Abuja Home, Kidnap Wife, Children by Omooba77(op): 11:40am On Aug 30, 2024
A resident of Ushafa Community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been shot dead.

The man was killed when bandits invaded his residence on Thursday night.

A police source confirmed the incident, but did not go into details.

The invaders were said to have kidnapped the deceased’s wife and children.

Ushafa is one of the communities that have come under attacks in the ongoing widespread insecurity in Nigeria.

SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer in FCT, could not be reached for comments as her phone line rang out repeatedly at the time of filing this report.

The development comes after SBM Intelligence, an Africa-focused market/security intel gathering consulting firm, said Nigerians paid N1.048 billion as ransom to kidnappers between July 2023 and June 2024.

In a report, titled ‘Grim Reaping’, the firm said FCT has the highest ransom demands in the country, with Lagos and Kaduna closely trailing.

It highlighted the complex security situation and the rise in kidnapping for ransom in Nigeria.

According to the report, though abductors demanded N11 billion as ransom within the period, only N1.048bn was paid.

The report also blamed the rising kidnapping for ransom on economic stagnation, noting that kidnappers increasingly target a broader range of people, starting with high ransom demands that are eventually lowered to what families or social organisations can afford.

The same News, without solution from government undecided
Banditry solution is simple, No bandit should be taken to police station alive!! Because they will be released by their sponsor or escape.
I have never seen any bandit sentence or in court.

The level of insecurity in this country is really very alarming. sincerely I don't know if these security chiefs are doing enough to nip this issue in the bud.
As I am, I'm scared of getting kidnapped and I pray it never comes my way. If I get kidnapped, my captors will never get shishi from anybody cos I don't have. I'm an orphan and the only child

The SW, Yorubaland is most unsafe place in the whole of Nigeria under Tinubu. If Fulani terrorists don't kill you, some Yoruba kidnappers will kidnap you. If you escape from Amotekun terrorists, you'll have to be on the look out for ritualist and human body parts sellers who are on the prowl. Some of the scenes from that region is apocalyptic.
Most parts of Nigeria aren't safe anyway. It is an indictment on the poor performance of the Nigerian security architecture and the government itself.

it is a conspiracy to keep defence budget astronomically high on one hand and make a case for northern amnesty.
A thread about a soldier accusing govt of sponsoring banditry and terrorism is trending right now on Nairaland. He also highlighted the issues of idle soldiers not being given order to invade the forests. If the defence budget is so high and yet soldiers are idling away, then the leaders are orchestrating both deliberately.

Na waah o... I totally condemn this barbaric banditry but I am very curious about how their minds were even working...
As they kidnapped the wife and children but murdered the man, where were they expecting the ransom from??

The kidnapping and bloodshed was totally unnecessary.

However the Wickedness was even undisputedly inhuman.

Are we ever going to come out of these issues, or we'll just have to learn to live with it?
I hear there was no such thing as Armed Robbery in Nigeria prior to the Civil War in 1967. The first incident occurred after the war, and it has remained with us.

The first time I heard/saw the word "ransome" was in WAEC English Language past question paper when I was preparing for SSCE in the late 90's. It was then my teacher told us it was payment for "kidnapping." Both words were strange to us. Not until mid 2000's that kidnapping and ransome became something Nigerians could relate with. The menace has remained till date.

Has banditry also come to stay?
