My fellow nairalanders, I seriously need help with my younger brother. He has practically gone mad due to substance abuse. He takes weed like water and not only that, he also takes ice (mkpulu mmili).

We are tired of talking. Even our village vigilante had arrested him and beaten him in the past yet nothing changed.

He no longer behaves normal. He doesn't bath. He no longer does his mechanic work (which he was very good at). He now chases customers away.

Please does anyone know anything that can be done about it? I have thought of taking him to a rehabilitation centre but there is none that I know of. Meanwhile he's in Enugu in case anybody wants to make a suggestion.

I need recommendations please, aside prayers because we have been praying about it already.

Beating him wasn't supposed to be a wise solution or treath.. my own solution is to lock him up in a private room for 2 months with constant food and water to detox, then rehab should follow.. cos what ice can not do doesn't exist, it's like a god that's worshipped violently and blesses its worshippers with abnormalities!..

Thanks, but which do you think is better, Rehabilitation and development association or PRAWA? Again, do you know of anybody they rehabilitated and the person is very fine now and didn't go back to substance abuse again?

Please don't be offended that I'm asking too many questions.

Meth is VERY bad.. it gives such an intense pleasure the brain wants more and the person stops eating and starts acting very weird..prayer and very good rehab is your solution but no guarantees once meth use has started

of the drugs. You can then release him. Make sure the bathroom is not with a bath basin so he does not drown himself.

You have to get him rehabilitated ASAP. I pray and hope he comes out of it.

Brings back terrible memories... Is you brother willing to change and stop substance abuse?

Prayer helps but most importantly the abuser must be willing and ready to do away with the substance..

Some family members go give you unnecessary stress. Look at his poster running from pillar to post, time he would have spent on something more useful.

It's not the weed, it's he ICE.

Minimum of 6 months rehab (go to NDLEA DDRD program, I think it is less than 30k a month). Depending on how hooked he is, he would come close to death why it is good he surrounded by other junkies that has been there done that.

It take more than one month for him not to run straight to taking it when he is freed... And a mechanic has the brain/straight to escape through the ceiling. They need proper rehab with concrete and bars... If he eat 1k food a day, paying rehab 30k a month is nothing.

ICE is too expensive so how long before he start stealing?

He needs rehabilitation. Once he's back, please show him love and don't look down on him so that he doesn't relapse. You may also want to know why he went into drugs so as to help him avoid those people/ life stress.

I wish these youngies can just listen to Timaya's recent testimony on how drugs almost cost him his entire life and career so that they can learn one or two lessons from him....

You don't lock an abuser in a confined environment except that person is totally MAD((insane)

The problem is the ice and not weed. Ice is a dangerous drug and very addictive. Beating him won't solve anything. He would have started stealing and selling properties to fund the behaviour.

He's currently behaving irrationally because of his dependence on ice.

That boy is a light but some people don't want him to shine. It's not by beating or shouting.

Your family should go into a place of prayer. It's an attack.

Take him to any of these three Federal NeuroPsychiatry Hospitals - Kaduna, Aro or Yaba

They have a Drug Abuse Treatment Education and Research (DATER) Unit there.

Drug Abuse Rehabilitation is subsidized (about N40,000 only per month)

The one in Kaduna has a well structured rehabilitation program and a decent environment.

Minimum advised rehabilitation time there is 4 months.

At last, he will be Okay.
