We have not had power for the past 2 weeks. I rushed out just few minutes ago to buy petrol to power our generator for pumping of water. I got it at 980 naira per litre. There are other locations that are selling at 1,000 naira per liter.

How do people in rural areas even survive? Last week, I traveled to a rural community, I don't recall seeing any petrol station. People in rural areas must be paying above what I am paying because they patronize mostly black marketers.
How will prices of food reduce when the farmers in these rural areas are spending much on transport to bring out their goods?

Tinubu's policies have put more people into poverty. His policies have reduced the purchasing power of most people. His policies have eaten most of people's savings.

It's already bleak now, what about next year when all these factors multiply?
We buy between 1,400-1,700 per litre in rural areas

I hope our Yoruba love every aspect of this situation. Meanwhile, Tinubu bought himself a new Presidential jet, and increased the fleet of luxury cars in his motorcade.

Tinubu is recklessly applying acadamic economic principles. He doesn't realize that 'book' is different from real life. And each country is different, and require different solution. The ugly man is so stupipid.
cheesy

So Nigeria is a different kind of country 🙄 Soooo unique that economic principles don't apply. Educated people actually believe this.

Nigeria is doomed.

Good Luck to Nigeria

It is well. The people of Benin Republic, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and several others have been buying fuel at the rate that Nigerians are just getting used to. They are not dead, they are not in hell. We are going to be fine. We should be tired of 64 years with no clear direction, we had several decades of subsidized fuel with nothing to show. Something has to give.

If Tinubu doesn't unfloat the Naira and control it like Buhari did, he might be stoned out of office (metaphorically) cos people are earning too low for them to afford buying commodities pegged at USD rates, especially fuel being the alternative to unstable power and also transportation.

The Naira isn't competitive yet, even Buhari knew this and made sure the CBN held it but Tinubu took an economically unsound decision by removing the subsidy and floating the Naira. This is what the IMF wants for Africa's largest economy and he was just a puppet who knew too little about the macroeconomy.
Person wey forge certificate...how can he know what macro economics stands for?

Tinubu didn't do anything. Nigerians VOTED for this in March 2015.

They people always talk about subsidy. They use that to distract Nigerians. NNPC still imports refined petroleum products. There's zero urgency to make Nigeria self-sufficient in petroleum products, and reduce cost, even though, we have the raw material. Wale Tinubu acquired from NNPC the rights to import almost all refined petroleum. Tinubu made himself Minister of Petroleum. High cost of petroleum products enriches Tinubu family.
Nigeria, wake up!

With the way things are going now, the ronu miscreant that said in this forum that he would rather die than vote Peter Obi in 2027, I wonder if he is even still alive by now. If hunger hasn't finished him off already. No matter how much fuel sells for in this country now, God knows that I will never enter local bus with my well starched senator, never. Otito diri Jesu.
Things would have been no different under Obi. It is either you completely remove subsidy or you keep subsidy and this is what will happen. I have said it many times on this forum that Tinubu should not have panicked and reintroduced back door subsidy. It is just prolonging the pain.

Landing cost of petrol is more than N1,000. It should not be selling for less than that. They will protest they will riot but they will adapt but you reintroduce it you just prolong the reset.

We have been living a false life for too long. We used money for infrastructure for subsidy during Jonathan, we borrowed to pay for subsidy under Buhari, now under Tinubu we don’t have the money and suppliers are not willing to give us petrol under credit for subsidy. Nigeria has no money for subsidy full stop!!

Not true. If a Presidential Election is held today between the same candidates as the last one, Tinubu and APC will still win. That's for sure.

Hey everybody, we now have a time traveler in nairaland. He is telling us what would have happened if another person had won 2023 elections. Peter has been condemning this government on many policies which he himself would have done differently but you are here telling us what he would and would not do. Biko, are you a mind reader to know his mind?

It is "overvalued", meanwhile the new minimum wage has not been paid and people keep earning an extremely low wage with the floated Naira... So let the FG pay a high wage since the Naira is now reflecting the true value, so people can afford basic amenities. How do you explain people working for a whole month and their salary cannot purchase half bag of rice?

Between you and I, who wants the Naira to become another Zimbabwean Dollar? Can you explain what happened to the Zimbabwean Dollar and compare it to Nigeria's economy?

No fuel - Go and refine your crude oil.

The refineries will NEVER produce as long as they're owned by government.

There will ALWAYS be fuel scarcity as long as government sets prices, even if there are 10,000 million barrel per day refineries in Nigeria, no matter who owns them.

If the government starts setting prices for garri or plantain today, both will disappear from the legal market in 6 months.

These are SIMPLE things to understand. No, you can't fix your refineries just like you can't fix federal universities and Ajaokuta Steel and National Stadium or NTA or NIPOST.

Impossible. Because nothing owned by government ever works in ANY country!!!

Good Luck to Nigeria

I've explained and over explained. My comment record is open. For example, why should the FG set any minimum or maximum wage? How many government workers are PRODUCING anything?

Where will the money come from? All the money was used to subsidize petrol, which is EXACTLY what the Nigerian people asked for. Helllloooooo!!!

Or try to look up reputable journals and sites focused on economics.

There's no mystery. Nigerians were warned in January 2012 when they insisted that fuel subsidy MUST remain. This is the PREDICTED outcome, nothing else could ever happen than exactly this situation.

Good Luck to Nigeria
