Does the north extort their traders this way? You need to grow above tribal biases

@ bolded,above...................Abi o jare!!!

The north sabi the only language these uncultured people comprehend..............unbridled violence.
they know (from experience), what to expect from the northerners hence they don't dare drag anything with them, in their ancestral space.

They are ganging up gradually to take control of Computer Village in Ikeja and push out the Yorubas that started the place.. Same thing they did in Alaba and likes.
As LASG don build flyover in that area now, next thing is for the visitors to start scheming to remove any Yoruba influence in Computer Village and make one of their own the President-General.
That one won't work in Ikeja, one of Yoruba people industrial strides.
how did Yorubas start computer village and Alaba? Lolz!!!

All the markets in Lagos you can point to were created by Yorubas and the Obas in Lagos have stake in them.. From Ladipo market to Alaba market to Tradefair to Computer Village.

I don't blame some of you Igbos but Yorubas that love keeping quiet where they ought to challenge invaders. Go to sabon gari in Kano and claim Igbos started the market if ab0kis won't deal with you.

When did you reach Lagos?.. I'll tell you the history of Computer Village so you'll educate yourself and know that Igbos came to meet people there.

That entire area is owned by Yorubas 100%.. the place that is now Computer Village was more of residential mixed with small businesses (mostly computer sellers and accessories). The place gained prominence due to it's central location close to under bridge, Ikeja and directly adjacent to Awolowo House which was like another shopping centre.

Don't go and be sleeping on bicycle, spreading falsehood that Igbos started computer village make Yoruba people no vex for una.
Respect your hosts.

Not Necessarily if they had the Oba's Trust
Not true. Never in the history of Yoruba land except for Tinubu who is known for serial bastardisation of Yoruba culture

That wasn't necessary
It was their loyalty to the Oba that was necessary
Lies. Iyalojas are basically traders who head a market. So, Tinubu daughter being one is bastardisation of Yoruba culture.
Iyaloja must come from the market, can be Yoruba or not. About loyalty, let a real iyaloja from the market become loyal to the oba, it's not a problem.

You can't solve a problem you don't have experience in. So the court was right for sacking her

The Oba could appoint anyone to be Babaloja or Iyaloja they only needed to be loyal to the king

You don't need to be a Trader in a Particular Place to be made it's Iyaloja the Oba can appoint any person he trusts as his Babaloja or his Iyaloja

An Oba's Market Taxes and duties collector could be made a Babaloja

Computer Village itself is about to be sacked because it is in a residential area

At least you cannot argue with that

If you have the right to lockdown your own Region markets every Monday remember that others too have their own Traditional rights too and respect them

Sacking computer village is not the issue but the fact that the iyaloja must come from the market.

Go and look for other means of making money, leave market people to choose their leaders. The court was right for sacking Tinubu

So , is there iyaloja at Microsoft and china town now ?

Sacking Computer Village is an issue on table especially if they don't respect their hosts Culture

It is in wrong location

Iyaloja doesn't need to come from the market but is appointed

Loyalty is the main requirement
You cannot teach us our own Culture
Many Oba's Sales and duties Tax collectors became Babalojas

Iyaloja stuff should be restricted to traditional Yoruba markets in charge of women traders selling pepper and tomatoes , not Igbo markets

What does she know about electronics and like gadgets that she wants to lead a market dedicated to those items ?
Do you know that that woman tried to extend the nonsense to Benin, in Edo state? Benin women carried their gongs and iron to start laying curses 🤬 on her.

I believe she has left them alone.

This level of greed ehn. I haven't seen it before.

The money she collects as levies, how is it spent? Is there any constitution backing this madness? Whatever levies yiu charge these traders, who do you think end up bearing the ultimate cost of it? Is it not still the masses as they end up buying these things for higher than normal. Let the people breathe.

MadPolitician:
That iyalaoshi nonsense is not known to the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. The lady in question is an interloper that should be immediately arrested and prosecuted for extortion and grand theft. Imprisonment should follow as quickly as possible, since she has constituted herself into a grand menace to the society for a long time. I just can not understand how the so called financial capital of the country will be allowed to descend so low as to tolerate this sort of infamy. How a person not recognised by the constitution as a functionary of the state, will be going around collecting taxes that go directly to her personal purse is mind boggling.

Nigeria runs on a well documented constitution. Warts and all, that paper called the constitution dictates every constitutionally accepted position in the country. Again, the federal laws supersedes any petty local laws. I will repeat for emphasis; the federal laws supersedes any petty discriminatory edicts from the states. If some prehistoric tribal mutants want to enforce traditional edicts alien to the constitution just to satisfy their village ego, they should be told what to do; get yourself a brand new Republic and make the strange looking daughter of your tribal god the leader of all markets there. Your kettle of fish. But as long as Nigeria subsists, this galurous ladys corrupt intentions will always be challenged.
Talking nonsense boldly! cheesy The Constitution grants the power to make subsidiary legislation and if such legislation is appropriately made any position it creates so long as it does not contradict any explicit constitutional provision carries the full weight of the law.

Very unwise to have taken legal decisions. Now the government will deploy other means to ensure that the fees are paid. Can a law chamber decide how clean an environment is. At what point what that place commissioned as a market by the Lagos state government the only authority that can make, build and disband any unauthorized selling point. I just hope they withdraw that fiat and seek alternative means of resolving the matter asap. Market levies are normal and a peregative of the local council council

I don't care about Tinubu's family or his daughter, but let it be known: no non-Yoruba, especially Igbo, will head any market—be it a vegetable market or Computer Village—in any part of Lagos State. It won't happen. The Igbo will never again be allowed to have any influence in any part of Yoruba land; it's already sealed!

If anyone from the land of primitive, forest-dwelling ancestors is looking for a market to dominate and colonize, they should relocate to their tiny, five-plot, erosion-ravaged land. A Yoruba person will be the 'Iyaloja' and 'Babaloja' of every market in Lagos, and by extension, every part of Yoruba land. If any Chinedu or Emeka is not comfortable with it,you can take your business to your village. You won't be missed!
