MT:what you are saying makes zero sense A black immigrant family can become multimillionaires in two generations in the United States if they play their cards right Patel family are an example there are many many other migrant families that has been able to do same But Africans have bad culture (financial) and wrong priorities hence making such feat more difficult for us The owner of Calendy is of Nigerian origin and he has more wealth than 95% of white folks will ever see so what are u saying abeggi to add for a Nigerian in Nigeria what's his pathway to the top? is it not the same glass ceiling (to use your own words) |

Rossikk:When people make this kind of comment, they think they are "intelligent" but when you read such comment, you would obviously know that the commenter has not step of Nigeria. FYI, I have seen Toilet cleaner with multiple cars and home owners, I have seen toilet cleaner living well and earning decent compared to bank managers in Nigeria. Let me tell you how things works outside African (like in USA), the less you earn, the more benefits you get from government, you pay less for insurance and even bills, you get support to buy car or house from government, you get monthly stipends and support from government, you get access to lots of tax credits, you get free food self from NGOs and government. Also, some toilet cleaners are even doing it for free (volunteering). Dont deceive people by sounding or looking "smart" but we know there is no wisdom in your comment |

Miramonica:I understand you perfectly! 10+ years ago, I returned to Naija to work for a “multinational”. In the last few years, I’ve had to re-japa inspite of the “huge” salary. Worse still, I know of dozens of ex-colleagues earning 40,50,60 million per annum choosing to japa abroad to start all over again. I ask them why and the breakdown is simple: Say you earn 50M (pre tax) and live in Lekki, married with 2 kids. After tax, maybe you get 35 - 40M. - Rent in Lekki 7M - Service charge/fuel/phcn band A - 5M - Car 10M - School Fees 6M - iPhone 2M - Total 30M without others like feeding, miscellaneous. You can’t even buy flight ticket for your family to enjoy vacation abroad. Your naira savings has been eroded and embassies will reject your family application. Truly sad. There was a country |

Villa12:And i earn more and live comfortably and free to socialize without any form of discrimination than the miserable immigrants who are constantly restricted to their parameters and discriminated to their worthlessness, some of which are greatly depressed and lonely in another man's land ![]() The other one called one day and said he needed a wife to marry from Nigeria ![]() So you can't socialize and get a white woman to marry? Who send you go there? |

RodgersAkpafu:https://www.nairaland.com/8184851/top-waec-scorers-2009-where The link about the JAMB scorers led me to have a thought about it. The WASSCE findings corroborated the belief. Except it's dem Eton or Winchester or that top school in London where black teens finish from, I don't see how most of the public schools managed by the UK government are better off than Catholic managed schools in Nigeria. I have promised myself that when I visit the UK, I will intentionally visit the top universities to search selected undergraduate programmes to count how many black students are there, where they come from and where they were raised in. |

Gerrard59:Well it's not so common to see black kids in ivy league schools here though they are there but not so many of them what you are doing is comparing the very best of what we can offer to a wide spectrum of schools here in the UK a better comparison will be the best of us and against the best in the UK (like u have rightly done) the mid of us vs mid of UK and rhe worst of us vs worst of UK have it in mind that the vast majority of people who migrated could not put their kids in top schools in Nigeria cos their school fees run into millions of naira per child so going to a mid or okay school is a big time upgrade for them also remember that the elite schools in Nigeria are housing our "best talents" no it's not just the school it's the students as well the best of Winchester will kick Loyola jesuits in the nuts I can bet anything on it and BTW I read that thread I loved it Good work but I don't agree with everything in it most of it but not all |

steeltrust:Where did the below happen? And you talk about a reserve soldier! They earn peanuts and that’s not hidden. The benefits that comes with is good but make it look like they are gods. They just like teachers. I never said Nigeria is better than the US, and only stating that the comparison is false. A bank manager is ahead of a cleaner in the US. Far ahead!

This reminds me of how some asians will complain about how their salary is so much lower than in US/UK/AU/etc. But they completely ignore that they pay almost nothing for rent, food, clothes, vacation, entertainment, medical care, and the overall lifestyle and infrastructure they enjoy. Now, they clearly have a lot of problems in their countries, but it's still ridiculous. It's pretty obvious that people make these comparisons between Nigeria and other countries for all sorts of emotional reasons, but it needs to stop. Yes, Nigeria has it's problems, but this is nonsense. And you look dumb af putting down a black nation as a black man/woman. But this is obviously a troll thread for traffic so whatever. |

But a toilet don't have a home just like the bank manager here in nigeria. So there is no difference. Just location and time |

helinues:This is a silly take. The default setting of Life is Service to Others. In serving others, your own needs are met. There's no shame in Serving others. The richest and biggest companies in the world serve the masses. Life is designed to be INTER-DEPENDENT. If Seun didn't create Nairaland , where would you type this? That's service. If the phone manufacturer didn't produce the phone, how would you have communicated? That's service. There's dignity in labour even in cleaning toilets. |

Geekhard:It's not about job shaming. The issue is for someone to pretend that you can compare a professional role requiring education, skill, and experience to that job, AND in the context of doing that job in an oyinbo country. |
