It is absurd that a company that declared a net profit of N3.29 trillion for the year ended in December 2023 – an increase of over N700 billion or 28 per cent over the 2022 profit of N2.54 trillion – is indebted by $6.8 billion to international oil traders.
False Accounting will thrive when such a big entity as NNPC is not required to undergo the rigors of an Annual Audit which is an independent examination and expression of opinion or a Companies financial statements.

With no such scrutiny and successive irresponsible and unpatriotic Presidents who benefit from such lack of audit scrutiny willing to turn a blind eye, then anything goes.

Ok.

But they have managed their affairs in such a way that the grandchildren of Norwegians who have not yet been born - already have quite high chances of success in this game called life.

Meanwhile...one West African country like that has hundreds of millions of people. That country has people who regularly boast about how many they are...as if uncontrolled procreation is a world sport worthy of praise. undecided The people in that country are largely poor, barely literate, poorly educated, poorly skilled and quite hungry. Many of them are in poor mental and physical health...and they don't even know it. They are very, very angry people and this anger routinely spills out in terrible bloodletting that would leave the average Norwegian speechless if he ever came across it.

Quality, not quantity. wink
I am not saying Norway has done badly. I in fact commended them but Norway's actual consumption and hence economy can not be all that larger than Osun state but that is a discussion for another thread. Norway is a good example of how an oil rich country can be run well

Like 25 warlords will be controlling different parts of the country.

Many will lost their life . The British will try to re amalgamate the broken country but it won't work.

After some years each part will experience rapid growth and development, because they now control their resources.
The way you people advocate violent end to your own country makes one wonder whether you're nihilists, or simply idiots.

Any parastatal hausas and fulani dominate is gone for good. Check the army, customs, immigration, agric. It is same pattern. Whatever favours them personally is the right thing to do and that what becomes the law or norm. See how they use sharia today.
The banking and financial sector can still survive because they don't dominate that. Education and health are alive not because of govt funding but reasonable southerners bring their token of commonsensical judgement and good public work ethics to those sectors.
It seems you read the article upside down or backwards....or both.

People running NNPC are political appointees beholden to their patrons. They dance to the tune of whoever appointed them.

In about 25 years of so-called democracy, northerners were in power for 11 years (Yar'Adua shouldn't even really count) while the south held sway for 14. So for more than half the period, southerners had full control of the entire national petroleum industry.

It is much larger than Osun oooo. Much, much larger.

On a per capita basis for nearly every development index, Nigeria can't compete with Norway. And if Nigeria can't compete, who is Osun? cheesy

Norway is an OECD country. That should tell you all you need to know.

We know what people consume inside any economy. Food, homes, automobiles, shoes, clothes, services etc. I believe Norway can not consume three times what Osun consumes

As if they don't know that NNPC already belongs to OANDP which belongs to the man they are asking to sell NNPC.

Maybe the article is designed to make things look like it is okay for a president to sell a national asset to his family company.

NNPC is not the problem....it is the people in NNPC ... So Tinubu needs to fire the people that are ruining NNPC..

True.

And that's precisely my point.

Norway is punching way, way above its weight on a per capita basis. It produces more than it consumes - and it sells the surplus to the rest of the world. Wetin remain to do again?

Its public finances are strong.
Its life expectancy rates are high.
Its growth is export driven.
It has consistently recorded trade surpluses.
Its institutions are strong.

And so on...

Norway isn't perfect. It is a high cost country and of late, its productivity growth has been declining. Its export growth is also powered in part by oil - a finite, non-renewable resource. But it has managed its oil wealth in a way that puts profligate countries (we won't mention any names) to deep, everlasting shame. Norway's sovereign funds (from its oil and gas revenues) have become something like a long term financial force of nature...while one overpopulated West African country like that...is broke (completely broke) and heavily in debt. undecided

That West African country had it all. It had it all and pissed it all away. There's no coming back from that.

Norway does not need her oil to be a big exporter. Its fish is enough. I think Norway is second only to China in fishing. Norway is really a great country. It is not right to say she is depending on oil. Norway however is earning forex not very much above its weight because all countries earn forex. It is the quality of management that differs.

You are missing the point I am trying to make.

Norway is an industrialized country. It is an OECD member - one of the founding members in fact. It has one of the highest HDI numbers in the world. This is big league stuff that Osun state simply cannot participate in. cheesy But Norway also has oil and gas reserves - and she has managed the income from those oil exports very, very prudently (unlike one country like that). That's all I'm saying. If you go through my posts again, you'll see exactly what I'm saying.
