This was only relevant back in the day when the amendment was passed. It is no longer what stops dictatorship. Other advanced democracies such as those in Europe are under no threat of dictatorship and yet they do not keep this inane gun policy.

This is meaningless. Not only is it almost impossible to conquer the USA by virtue of its location, not to speak of it military prowess, the simple truth is that if indeed it was ever conquered, in the modern age, a gun behind every door will be meaningless in light of the technology which will be available to any power capable of having invaded and subdued it.

The truth is there is no excuse for the refusal to permit sensible gun control other than primitive sentiments. No one says guns should be banned, only sensible gun control is asked for. A person has to show a good credit record to get a loan for heaven's sake, why should a person not be of sound mind and character to apply for a gun?

Those countries in Europe and the other one, Canada which you mentioned are not dictatorships, because of the US. Canada sits right above the US, and everything about it is American, except the fact that it answers to the British Monarchy.
Now, Germany was once under a dictatorship, even after Hitler was defeated. It was US president Ronald Reagan who went to Berlin, at the Brandenburg Gate, where Germany was divided, and called for the reunification of Germany under a democracy.
Would you also care to know that most of the countries in Europe are under NATO, so how is ever possible for a dictator to take over?
