Then, all you have to do is implement the same policy in Igbo land.

And I am an Igbo man. My junior sister sat for Yoruba language during her WAEC, I encouraged her to do so. Today she's enjoying the benefits. She's well grounded in Igbo language too but could pass off as Yoruba

Funny enough, there are other Nigerian ethnic nations on Nairaland and I haven't seen them complaining, except Igbos.

Yet, we said we want Biafra but complaining against a clear strategy to hasten it. Note that we're not going to get it by noise making. Open your eyes. This is how to get it!!
We wont do that. We are not bigots. We dont feel threatned by anybody in Igboland. If you feel you have what it takes to do business in Igboland be successful please go ahead. Nobody have time for all these pettyness.

Gbadebo that can't even pronounce his own name.. The more reason why this is a good development.

The thing is we dont want our Language to perish

There's a Tsunami coming from the Indian ocean and its sweeping effect is so strong that peoples culture are being washed down the drain so easily. We dont want that here

This language should survive the next 1000years and we hope to Acculturate every single non-Yoruba person into the culture

Take our names, learn our language
For them to have imposed their religions on you and you couldn't do anything about it, is the greatest Tsunami you can ever imagine. cool

You are just one person

There are alot of Igbos that understand Yoruba more than their Language and I know alot of them

Imagine what would happen when they have children, still in the SW...Over many generations, they'll assimilate into the culture

As for the socalled advantage, whats advantageous in learning a local language that u cant speak outside the shores of your country cheesy cheesy cheesy...Its why most Yorubas dont envy you guys in that regards. Plus, no be say dem wan relocate to your region tomorrow. So they care less about yours
My friend at university in was an Ibo boy from Ibadan. Those Ibadan ibos dey understand Yoruba well and even the culture. Dem dey prostrate well well. We need lagos ibos to get on board as well..especially those that just arrived from the SE.

Lies. Ibos full public school well well. Time for them to learn Yoruba or they can always move back to Anambra grin
Igbo and other tribes learning yoruba will help you preserve yoruba.

Yoruba is second class language.

English remain tops

This is quite funny. A whole lot of Igbo people learnt yoruba language years ago before these funny power grabbers came to be. We learnt it because it helped us in our businesses and communicating better not because any bigot or power grabber persuaded us to.

Even before I came to Lagos, some of my kinsmen when they come back for xmas, speak Yoruba fluently in the vliiage. Trust me Igbo kids will speak both Yoruba and Igbo fluently, obviously having advantage anywhere amongst their pars. They will always excel EVEN in Lagos.

Thank God also this is limited to the dilapidated low standard, low quality Public schools. Private Schools to the rescue for other non speaking Yorubas.

Imagine an Indian, German, American or Hausa child being told to speak Yoruba before they will access education in a state the Lingual Franca is English, they will dump the already shitty public schools for quality education in Private Schools

Private schools to the rescue. Shitty Public schools for Shukura, Ayomide, Basira, Oluti, Rukka etc.
Speaking Yoruba generally will foster unity among Yoruba and other ethnic groups unlike somebody speaking a language that is different from yours and you will be thinking they are talking bad about you

Delusional, u cannot talk bad about anybody but we can talk bad about you in our own language.

U seen to think we will ever stop speaking English or our languages, we wont.

We will just add yoruba

I speak Yoruba fluently, I know ur culture but it doesnt dilute one once of my Igbo blood. If you are conversant with events in Lagos, You would have noticed that a lot of Igbo people in Lagos speak Yoruba fluently. It is even a great advantage. Lol.
They don't know. I have heard stories of Yorubas using the inabilities of our Igbo brothers to intimidate and harass them even in Police. But doing this will stripe the Yorubas this advantage.

But me and you dey cast this update sha...

I support Sanwo Olu on this. It's a good development.

You won’t know, but it will shape your thinking.

When you teach kids Yoruba history at their young age, it play on their psyche and they tend to behave differently from those that grow up in other places.

If you go to Igboland today, you will think differently and your approach to things will be somehow different from people who spent their life in Enugu. You might not know it, but people will tell you themselves.
Believe what the lies you're telling yourself.

Anambra is so clannish they openly call for state recruitment of only Anambra indigenes but you’re here preaching to Lagos on how to govern because of one Nigeria.
Not all non-yoruba, but non-yoruba seeking to go to state secondary schools. It does not affect private & Federal govt schools

Amaka is an old lady when she travelled abroad. She is just like me and you.

Do you agree we have lot of Yoruba/Igbos abroad that can’t even speak their language and don’t know much about your culture and tradition.

If you stay abroad you’ll understand me. In that same Lagos, there are igbos that don’t speak Igbo but speak/understand Yoruba. You want to tell me that won’t have an influence on them?
Did you pass any law for them to speak yoruba?

We all know yoruba, that is the point and we know our native languages too.]

what influence are you looking for? over population of Lagos and SW?

WEN FULANI ANE EVERYBODY START SPEAKING YORUBA DAT WILL BE OVER POPULATION.

Lagos is a cosmopolitan state. Residents pick many things from many groups
You keep saying English is lingua Franca, Lagos is cosmopolitan... The native and government said that is the rule. I don't think it calls for an argument or a cry of marginalization.

To apply for some schools, higher institutions included, in certain countries like China, Germany, Russia etc, you're compel to study and learn the native language. Many schools in UK and US don't care whether you've obtained a Phd in English language, as long as English is not your native language, you must write a proficiency iltest in English before you can gain admission or be employed. If you have no problem with that, I wonder why you should have problem with this. With those countries, it is either you accept the offer to be taught their language or you look elsewhere for your admission or job. It's as simple as that.

Every action and inaction of government should not always be interpreted as witch-hunting or systemic attacks on a group.

If the policy is implemented, even many Yoruba children will be affected. Many parents, particularly in Lagos and Ogun state who consider themselves elite prevent their children from speaking or learning to read and write Yoruba. So, this could be a way of correcting those educated illiterate parents and force them to see the reason why their children need to understand Yoruba.

One of the best ways to take over another persons land is to learn have that one thing that binds them together and that one thing is language, that way they won't be able to hide anything anymore..... facts check every conquest starts from the inside through someone who knows the land.....it has been written that an Igbo blood will rule that Lagos and every other land in the SW.

I think we heard National conference and sovereign National conference?.
All of us must be careful in this Nigeria because Lagos population is 70% strangers.
If you people want to quietly divide this country,we are 100%ready and waiting for you people. This New imposition of another language to people with another language is anty people. And also a bad move to deny people their human rights...
They are the most racist & tribalistic people on the planet. They are worse than south-africans. In fact,The only reason dey cannot kill like south-africans is because the southern states surrounding them Gallant. You can imagine LASG built with the wealth of Nigerdelta & the revenue of non-yorubas is making it compulsory to learn yoruba before you enter their secondary school. The only reason they love Nigeria is because they steal from the state and accumulate wealth. If they had d qty of refinable oil that south-east has(not even nigerdelta) these guys won't employ any non-yoruba. Imagine if dey do this to students, how about the thousands of non-yorubas teaching in theses state schoolshuh
