*SENTENCED TO DEATH BECAUSE OF ONE MINUTE CALL FROM HIS PHONE BY A STRANGER.* A stranger comes to you and say help me with only one minute call from your phone, my phone is dead and i need to call someone urgently, and you, being a nice person, you say no problem, take and make the call. Do you know what you have done? If your phone is used to call someone they want to go and kill or someone they just poisoned and when investigation starts and they had to check who called them last and your number shows up…. Let me break down what will happen to you so that you will learn something today from this platform. First of all, you will be arrested for whatever crime because your phone was used to make that call and it will be considered that you know the person that’s why you gave the person your phone and it’s a known deal between both of you. Secondly, since the inception of NIN, your phone is now your personal property that you will answer for anything that happens on it or through it. So, for these reasons, you will be arrested and kept in detention until all investigations are completed. even if the investigation takes 6 months or two 2 years, that means you will be locked up for that period of time over the fact that you just borrowed someone your phone to make a one minute call. Do you now see that your good heart that is void of carefulness can lead you to something so bad? *And ignorance (of the law) is not an excuse before the law.* |

once you fall for this, THROW AWAY YOUR SIM.... AND YOUR PHONE AND GO TO POLICE TO REPORT IT STOLEN. GET A GOOD LAWYER Get 2-3 witnesses AND YOU ARE FREE. The sense of the evil people can never be greater than the wisdom of the righteous. |

Kingsland24:I know someone who narrowly escaped this same problem, thanks to God for the quick intervention of good people but lots of money was collected. |

blackpanthar:for your mind nah... forgetting that there is a call time and a time the report was made. it would even make you be a prime suspect that you are trying to cover up something. the best bet is a very big NO and save yourself some money and embarrassment in this tinubulation era |

blackpanthar:The irony of it all is that you may not know if a police case is brewing. Let's just be guided and pray for discernment. |

Just have a good lawyer. You think evidence is just circumstantial as you put in your write-up ? Or you don't know they can request the telco to provide evidence of the call log and you will see that this is not a pattern to the accused? or if the accused as a call recorder and they play it to see it is not his voice. Make una no de teach police their work. |

erad:No it's not..... I had an experience at computer Village Ikeja last year close to this. My phone went blank overnight and I had to go fix it, my junior brother gave me the phone number of his engineer friend and asked me to call immediately I get to the market so he can come pick me because I wouldn't get the guys office no matter how hard he described (people who are familiar with computer Village understand what I'm talking about) it for me. I got to the market with just a piece of paper where I had written the number plus my blank phone, now how do I let the engineer know I'm already in the market without a phone to call him ![]() I spent more than 1hr begging everyone I saw just to let me make a 20/30secs call on their phone but no one accepted. I even bought airtime incase anyone said it's due to lack of airtime but they all gave me the same reply, " I don't want police problem" I was about to give up and give the phone to any engineer I could see around when I finally approached a young guy I saw making a call, he looked at me somehow first then he accepted on one condition, that is I put the call on speaker for everyone around to hear which I did.... So you see now it's not just about unnecessary fear mongering but the reality on ground this days... |

Any lawyer who defended a suspect in this kind of case and the suspect bags a sentence, that lawyer should serve part of the jail time. Any individual carrying out organized crime always have a pattern. We no sabi law for this country |

Juliearth:thats why you do it either way JUST TO BE SAFE AND REPORT TO THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY..... so if anytime in future, it can be countered and shown that you reported and everything is nullified. |

Tokskob2008:You just proved my point. Everyone has been told such stories and became fearful in a situation that didn't even warrant it. There's no reason for their action other than they were told this, or they heard that, or someone said this and that. |

erad:If you receive a message that you just 10 million but need 1 million deposit to clear it. Do you rely on your personal experience to accept or reject such deal or the unwarranted "fear mongering"? If in a public transport someone mentioned they have a bag filled with dollars in the booth to be shared by willing passengers. Do you rely on your personal experience to join or reject the sharing party or people's "fear mongering"? Suppose you were paid via transfer for a goods or service. Do you just accept the SMS alert as payment evidence or you go for secondary verifications based on "fear mongering" that the alert might be fake? |

ivolt:I'm not sure I understand what you want to achieve with your questions and the "scenarios" you're painting, but there's a difference between being security conscious and just being an absolute douche because some idiots have painted some worst case scenarios. So I grew up hearing weed smokers are touts and criminals, should I start running when I see any weed smoker? Where's the common sense in that? If you can't use your discretion and give every situation a blanket reaction, then there's something wrong somewhere with such person. You keep trying to justify this rubbish, but have you considered the harm it brings to the very fabric of human relationships and co-habitation especially in a country whose unity is being held together by a very thin thread? What if the person that wants to use your phone has a real emergency? Will you watch people suffer or possibly die due to your paranoia? I'm sure you'll invent ways to justify such heartless and unwarranted reaction. Nigeria is in the deep mess it's in today due to the government's knee-jerk reaction to every problem. Like a yoruba adage says, "cutting off the head is not the solution to a headache". I'm not disputing the fact that such situations may occur but the solution is not to outrightly reject a person because you read of something online. The person I quoted first said he eventually got someone to allow him use their phone but they insisted he put the phone on speaker, now that's a solution right there rather than the paranoid "not my concern" stance you people keep suggesting. This is how people get falsely accused in public and would have been lynched before people discover it's due to the paranoia of the person that raised the alarm. Unfortunately, the harm is done already by then. |
