Help: Should I Go For .ng Or .com Domain? Hosting Advice Needed As Well by Mhizterious(op): 9:41am On Sep 07, 2024
Hello everyone, please I am at crossroads trying to decide the best domain for me. It is a Nigerian based site that will be targeting locals however, I am wondering how much of an effect .ng domain has on SEO?

I have previously registered my domain on whogohost but my FULL information is available on Whois. I had no idea that there is no ID protection for .ng domains and this makes me really uncomfortable.

What would you guys recommend I do please? Would it be that bad to use a .com extension for a local based website?

Secondly, I will be using a demanding theme and I am wondering if anyone here has a very strong and reliable VPS server that I can pay for a slot and get my website on their server.
If there are other options for more reliable hosting options for me please let me know.
The hosting should support MySql 8 or Maria Db

Thank you guys so much.

It is better to go for .ng because it gives you more branding in nigeria and a better traffic

and also you pay less for it unlike .com that you pay more than 20k per annum.

For hosting, Usijali Hosting is your best deal. If it's reliability you're looking for. Plus good customer support

The last time i checked WHOIS ID protect its not available on .ng extension, but if you do not want your sensitive information online, you can just use general details that you don't mind people having access to. You should try qservers they provide good hosting services.
Its OK to use a .com domain if you wants, and qserver support the database type and version you needs

Why not get domains in the two extensions and redirect traffic from one to other.

.NG will target locally while the .com which ranks way higher globally will give you more exposure as your brand grows and will be valuable should you seek to expand beyond Nigeria. By then both domains will have built enough value and well ranked.

Why not launch your own fast server and be in control of everything? And if you are building an MVP/startup, you could get up to $5k credits to operate for 2years+ freely!

Side query: The quality VPS you are looking for, what's your budget?
