She has been away from Nigeria for 8 months, participating in competitions around the world. Those competitions enabled her to be ranked number 2 in the world in women's para-badminton (SL3 category). She was also training for the 2024 Paralympics. She eventually won a bronze medal at the Paralympics, the first medal by an African in badminton at either the Olympics or Paralympics. The 18 year old returned to a rousing welcome at the General Tunde Idiagbon Airport, Ilorin.

How Bello Oyebanji (RIP) inspired Eniola Bolaji to a historic Paralympic medal win in Badminton for Nigeria and Africa:

Bello Rafiu Oyebanji, triple gold medallist at the 2018 African Para Badminton Championships, was @BolajiEniola9's Coach.

He died in a car accident on April 21, 2021—while preparing for the final qualification tournament for the Tokyo Paralympics.

In 2019, at the Uganda Para-Badminton International, he said, "My ambition is very wide. I want to be at the Paralympics and win a medal, it will be good for Africa and Nigeria."

He died two years later, without getting a chance to take part in a Paralympic Games.

Described as "an inspiration to a lot of young Para athletes, not only in Nigeria but across all of Africa", he was survived by his pregnant wife.

3 years and 4 months after his death, his teen protege/student, Eniola Bolaji has become the first African to win an Olympic medal in Badminton. On Monday Sept 2, 2024, she won a bronze medal in Para Badminton, at the he was the one who brought me up. I have to win the medal, because I have to dedicate it to him.”

She started out interested in tennis; it was Oyebanji who convinced her to switch to badminton.

Days before winning the bronze medal in Paris, she said, of her late Coach, "He was the one who brought me up. I have to win the medal, because I have to dedicate it to him."
