Ajaero Arrest: National Grid Risks Shutdown As Electricity Workers Issue Protest by Good01(op): 8:51pm On Sep 09, 2024
By Ogaga Ariemu

National grid shutdown looms as the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) puts members on strike alert over the arrest of Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), by the Department of State Security (DSS).

Acting General Secretary Igwebike Dominic disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

This follows the arrest of Ajaero by the DSS on Monday.

Reacting to Ajaero’s arrest, NUEE demanded his immediate and unconditional release without harm.

“Nigeria is our collective country; our leaders should not make us live like slaves that cannot express themselves in our country.

“We demand the unequivocal and unconditional release of Comrade Joe Ajaero without any harm meted out to him. We are using this medium to put all our members on alert for further directives.”

DAILY POST reports that Ajaero was on his way to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) UK conference held on Monday when he was arrested by the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Earlier, the NLC had issued a notice of a red alert to the affiliate unions, warning of an impending nationwide strike and protests if Ajaero is not released.

Nigeria belongs to the masses first and not politicians. No politicians can stop Nigerians from criticizing bad governance and terrible policies... Thousands of Tinubu can't stop Nigerian workers from exercising their rights.

If Mr Ajaero is not immediately released, Tinubu's downfall just began and whoever is advising Tinubu to keep up with his tyranny, are his greatest enemies.

Tinubu wants to create a terrible history for himself and his entire family, especially after causing untold hardship on Nigerians. This was how Abacha started, he eventually fell.

At the moment, we can say by fact that Tinubu is mad man who's destruction is imminent.

no one is advising Tinubu. He's doing it all by himself. He's bent on in caging critics by taking us back to Abacha era.
2027, is fast coming. Nigerians can't wait to kick him out. The suffering is unbearable.

Re: Ajaero Arrest: National Grid Risks Shutdown As Electricity Workers Issue Protest by emkz:
No one is even asking why Joe Ajaero was arrested. Everyone assumes he did not do anything. Even if they state why he was arrested, they’d still argue he is being victimized.

Why is he being victimized?

How come no one has invited or arrested the president of TUC or NUPENG/PENGASSAN or ASUU? Why always this NLC dude?

Let us also remember that he tried to involve himself in Imo State local elections last year and got beaten as a result by local thugs. He was also accused last year of being involved in disrupting Air Peace operations due to his issues with Imo State Government.

Joe Ajaero, why always you? How come the TUC/PENGASSAN/NUPEN/ASUU chairmen have not been heard being dirtying themselves with politicians?

There is also a report that DSS had quietly invited him last week. Why didn't he quietly honour the invitation?

There is a Briton accused of being involved in the #EndBadGovernance riots. The Briton allegedly owns a bookshop in the NLC building 2nd floor. The same Briton confirmed that some of the #EndBadGovernance protesters were in his business premises. No one has asked him why they were there. He needs to explain if he gave them funds to motivate the riots. He also needs to explain if there is a connection with Joe Ajaero.

Joe Ajaero owes us an explanation.

It would be helpful too if DSS tells us why they picked him up or charge him to court per extant laws.

In the recent UK riots motivated by fake news, hate speech and anti-immigration/anti-Muslim riots, a lot of those caught inciting and engaging in violence have been tried and jailed. Some have been fired from their jobs. There is no one in the UK who condemned the government actions. Many of ours in Nigeria want a lawless state where everything goes. If you want to live in a lawless society, go to Colombia, Somalia, Pakistan, India (where rape is a sport), Brazil, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Congo, Venezuela, Mexico, and Haiti (where gangs are in charge). In some countries like India and Pakistan, women are not safe, including the dead ones. In some of these countries, you cannot walk freely. But if there is anyone who wants to make Nigeria lawless, the person would be resisted, whoever he is.

PS: What is going on with PIDOMNIGERIA? The way people gave up on him should be a lesson to those who deliberatdly get into trouble for fake online fame, that is as fleeting as fake BBL.

In whose interest are you shutting it down?
Labour betrayed the nation.
What was the position of labour when the account of the end bad governance protesters were frozen and when the protesters were arrested?

Labour is fighting for the civil servants but end bad governance protesters fought for all

You are funny o, you think it is protesters that will shut down the grid, it is the workers that are working in the grid that will shut it down.

Tinubu is just creating more enemies for himself, he is so engrossed in politics...

Sorry to irritate hypocrites like FreeStuffsNG and helinues (already talking nonsense below) but Ajaero was released minutes to the NLC ultimatum.

Tinubu is playing with fire. Very soon no foreign government worth it's salt will want to entertain him. For a man touted as a seasoned democrat who suffered oppression the descent to mindless tyranny is worthy of studies. Tinubu surely deserved the pain he went through in the hands of the military.
Re: Ajaero Arrest: National Grid Risks Shutdown As Electricity Workers Issue Protest by NinjaMetahuman:
This is why there needs to be another emergency law to criminalize shutting down national grid.
And there must never be unionization around national grid just like the police.

Ajaero is not above the law. Nobody is above the law.
Let him go and hire lawyers to defend him.

This act of terrorism of shutting down national grid and people's means of livelyhood because one suspected criminals is arrested or because some people are on strike has no place in sane society.

Nigerians should never cry when South Africa decides to put Nigeria on it's knees.

MTN is enough for South Africa to use to sabotage our economy to an almost point of collapse.

We have never, ever been a serious people as a Nation. Imagine they want to shut down the national grid. undecided
