In a fresh agreement between President Bola Tinubu and his counterpart in the People’s Republic of China, President Xi Jinping, Nigeria has dumped Taiwan for One-China policy, THISDAY has learnt. This is just as China may have agreed to put pressure on Russia not to be meddlesome in Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, in the efforts to provide regional stability in West Africa.Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso recently pulled out from the regional bloc, ECOWAS, headed by President Tinubu, over the military takeover of the democratically-elected governments in the three countries.www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/09/08/nigeria-dumps-taiwan-for-one-china-policy-china-to-pressure-russia-over-west-africa/

I just hope that this kind of fundamental diplomatic shift, was done after thorough and strategic planning. It seems like Tinubu is running the country like a sole administrator, especially with the legislature and the judiciary already pocketed. This kind of decision should be done after much consultations. While following the Chinese is the best path, since China is basically the next super power, policy makers should understand that countries like Taiwan are still very important diplomatic tools being used by the west to influence politics in Asia. This means that an anti Taiwan stand by Nigeria will surely attract some sort of reactions from the west. |

Taiwan was a third world country like Nigeria back then, but the level of advancement in Taiwan today is what Nigeria ought to be learning from and not tail-nosing a Communist nation like China. |

frankson1:How am I a coward? Does Tinubu look like someone getting ready to engage in any sort of serious ideological fight with the west? Is he not a strong western puppet? So where is the bravery in tinubu that you are trying to defend? |

MadPolitician:Reaction and so what? African puppet leaders need to grow some balls. They agreed to it because they're working for the West and need China to help them secure guarantee that Russia will not intervene should the West make an attempt to reclaim the AES countries. Wish they made the decision themselves and simply not for the west. 54 African countries simultaneously rising against the west will cause disaster for the colonialists but no, they're still working for the west any chance they get |

Nigeria has never had formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan. How can a country "dump" a relationship that did not exist in the first place? |
| Re: Nigeria Dumps Taiwan For One-China Policy by sagitariusbaby(m): 7:57am On Sep 10, 2024 |
Taiwan is a strategic Western partner and a dumping them for China isn't a wise decision to make. You don't force a people to where they simply don't want to be. China should stop the bullying already, Taiwan doesn't need China, China needs Taiwan. |
| Re: Nigeria Dumps Taiwan For One-China Policy by sslcrypt: 7:58am On Sep 10, 2024 |
frankson1:You are stupid for calling him that, you think china gives a heck about your recognition. The only way Taiwan will fall is via through force. And we know what's playing out so far. |

MadPolitician:When it comes to international diplomacy, this government is practicing what we call "anywhere Belle face" diplomacy. If tomorrow Taiwan or any of its Western Allies dangles some carrot at these government they will make a U-turn. |

SpyMaster1:Projects we want to see China assist Nigeria with: Ibadan - Abuja standard rail line Lagos green metro line - Marina to Lekki Mambilla 3000MW Hydro dam Floating 250MW Solar plant on Lagos Lagoon China reportedly put $50bln on offer for Africa. If Nigeria doesn't take between $7bln- $10bln of that amount, then Tinubu has failed. |
