While noting that the foreign government was accepting visa applications from Nigerian nationals, UAE attached a list of stringent rules that must be followed.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities have mandated that Nigerian solo tourists must be 45 years or older before they can visit the Asian country, according to a new set of travel guidelines seen by Peoples Gazette.

While noting that the foreign government was accepting visa applications from Nigerian nationals, UAE attached a list of stringent rules that must be followed.

The guideline stated that Nigerian tourists who intend to travel to the country must have an account balance of at least $10,000 or N16 million to be eligible for a 30- or 60-day travel visa.

“SIx-month bank statement under passenger name, with closing balance not less than $10000 each month” and a “confirmed return ticket on Emirates Airlines” were among the explicit terms and conditions to qualify for a UAE visa.

Other conditions include “confirmed hotel booking” and a “valid residence permit of the country of residence.”

Nigeria and UAE previously locked horns in a diplomatic row that made it impossible for Nigerians to visit the latter since September 2022.

But after closed-door concessions were made, the Emiratis announced the visa ban on Nigerians was lifted.

It's an impressive move if this is true. Every territorial jurisdiction on earth has a right to protect itself against the relentless activities of criminals and wolves by raising the bar. $10,000 isn't too much for genuine Nigerian international businessmen and investors. Only serious people should be allowed into any jurisdiction like UAE which is a major international business hub. The Ghanaians also have their own minimum rules for anyone seeking to establish a business in Ghana. Period.

The Seychelles Islands also restricted the movement of Nigerians into their country in 2023 because of the very notorious criminal activities of a hard drugs cartel with origins majorly from Anambra (one of the South Eastern states of Nigeria) who relentlessly brought in illicit hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine into Seychelles and got arrested week after week. Aside from being a major international tourist destination, The Seychelles has been tackling the challenge of hard drugs usage in their country which was being fueled by some foreign criminal groups.

According to the police, Godson Odinah Nwezi who lives in the Perseverance district, was sentenced on two counts, 10 years for the importation of a controlled drug and three years for the same offence.
