This Tinubu is a fool.
If they are serious about the conversion to CNG should the operation time be 3-6 pm only on few days of the week? Look at how many vehicles we have.... Should the conversion centers be this few?
It ought to have litter everywhere.

The is just another propaganda at giving false hope to the citizen. It will not be well with this evil Tinubu and the APC government in general.

Nigeria is such a screwed up country...

naptu2:
I guess the removal of petrol subsidies has made it more viable.
naptu2:
I remember that, back in the 1980s, NNPC regularly exhibited a made in Nigeria peugeot 504 that ran on gas, with the promise that such cars would go on sale in Nigeria "next year".
naptu2:
Let me clarify about Peugeot 504. PAN continued making Peugeot 504 in Nigeria, when other countries had stopped producing, it for specific reasons.

The original goal of the 1969 auto conference was to produce a Made In Nigeria car. Bedford had been doing CKD since 1959, but Gowon wanted a completely made in Nigeria car. Peugeot took this challenge very seriously.

They had been increasingly sourcing parts in Nigeria and they kept the public informed about it. So you'd hear announcements like 70% made in Nigeria, 80% made in Nigeria, etc.

You could win a 504 if you hit a hole in one at the Nigerian golf tournament at Ikoyi Club in the 1980s. It was heavily marketed.

Peugeot had a joint venture with the Nigerian Gas Company (a subsidiary of NNPC) to produce a Peugeot 504 that ran on gas (1989). There was a lot of publicity about it, but NGC did not fulfil its part of the obligation (there were no filling stations equipped with gas dispensers).

So this was a thing of pride for PAN. They had built a Made In Nigeria car and they wanted it to go on forever, so they kept re-inventing it. Adding plastic here and there, until they finally stopped making it in 2005. They were still re-modelling the cars in 2008.
naptu2:
You don't understand. The first time that I saw a compressed natural gas filling station in Nigeria was in 1989. That's almost 31 years ago. How many of these stations exist across Nigeria today.

Peugeot had committed to making Peugeot 504 cars that ran on compressed natural gas, expecting that there would be filling stations across Nigeria, but how many of these stations are in Lagos? How many are in Abuja? How many are in Enugu? Yet this is 31 years later.
naptu2:
Once again, sometime in the 2000s, a subsidiary of the NNPC ran a programme in Benin City to convert vehicles to run on CNG. Many vehicles in Benin now use CNG and they built 15 CNG stations in the city. However, they did not extend this programme nationwide.
naptu2:
Let me show you how unserious Nigeria is.

Some people might think that this compressed natural gas (CNG) idea is new, but it is not. I watched as the government said that it was rolling out a CNG programme in the late 1980s. In response Peugeot made 504 cars that ran on CNG. The Nigerian Gas Company was meant to build fuel stations that dispensed CNG. They never did. The Peugeot 504 cars were just like prototypes.

Once again, sometime in the 2000s, a subsidiary of the NNPC ran a programme in Benin City to convert vehicles to run on CNG. Many vehicles in Benin now use CNG and they built 15 CNG stations in the city. However, they did not extend this programme nationwide.

It is only now, when we have damaged our economy with subsidy and when we have no choice, that we are considering having a national CNG programme.

I have been posting about this since 2012.

It's similar to how we should have removed subsidy since the early 1980s, but we kept it until it almost ruined us. The only reason we stopped it now is because we have no money. Some people think that this subsidy issue began in the Goodluck Jonathan or Obasanjo eras, but government has been trying to remove it since the early 1980s.

Similarly, I have been shouting since 1987 that we needed to get rid of our numerous money losing parastatals. It looked like government wanted to take over every sector of the economy, shut out individuals and pump money into them without considering where the money was coming from and how much we were losing in taxes that would have been paid by individuals if they had been running companies in those sectors. There was NICON, Daily Times, New Nigerian, NNSL, Nepa, Nitel, Nipost, Nigerdock, FMB, Nigeria Airways and so on and so forth. We had to wait until we had no money (during the Obasanjo era) before we sold all that nonsense.

And actually, many private companies have built CNG stations across Nigeria. The most famous is NIPCO.

NIPCO built 15 CNG stations in Benin City in the early 2000s. They have gradually spread out across the country. As part of this new initiative the government has also engaged them to build more stations.

Here is a list of some of the NIPCO CNG stations across Nigeria.

And NIPCO is not the only company that has CNG stations.

But is it only Lagos that should benefit from this initiative? Meanwhile I haven't seen CNG sold anywhere. What is really going on?

How many Nigerians can afford the cost of the conversion. Also, it has been noted that if your engine is not in top top shape, the performance of the conversion is impacted. I hope people thoroughly research these things before converting.. undecided

Yes. I think NIPCO has its Headquarters at Benin. Also, the Headquarters of Nigeria Gas Company a subsidiary of NNPC is at Benin.

NIPCO built a CNG station at IBAFO in Ogun State opposite Mountain Of Fire Prayer City since 2014.

Since July this year till Tuesday this week about 100 DANGOTE CNG TRUCKS have been filled. People are asking me why Dangote Cement is converting to CNG when they have Refinery. I told them I am going to write the reason on nairaland when time comes.

Apart from Dangote, a lot of companies with fleet of trucks are converting to CNG and the fleet of CNG trucks are loading from this CNG station opposite Prayer City beside Rain Oil at IBAFO.

What Tinubu government has done it is only right thinking Nigerians that can appreciate it. The change is very painful but also gainful at the end.

In 2014 up till 2015 when that CNG station was built, I had thought it was a wasted huge investment. Up till 2022, people still don't understand the importance of the Gas Station. Now, everybody knows the reason why the Gas Station was built when they saw Dangote Trucks on queue for CNG .

I'm not hating. If Tinubu is not a failure please prove me wrong by mentioning the things he has achieved that Nigerians are really happy with. Mention that thing he has done that the whole Nigerians are enjoying without complaining and win 100k . Please I am serious about the money
