It has now been confined to the dustbin of history! I mean the monthly Presidential media chats that hallmarked the coming of democracy post 1999. Obasanjo was available, Yar’Adua did his bit, Jonathan was always there to answer to questions and provide reasonable clarity on government policies. It was all going smoothly between the leaders and the led in this country untill...... APC wriggled their way to power and basically turned things upside down. The first few interactions Buhari had with the media after his swearing in, he was hoofing and puffing, it was as if he was at war with some unseen ghosts. Then he started throwing taunts, insults and unpresidential threats around like confetti during media engagements, and his handlers had to rein him in and stopped the whole thing. He looked very uncomfortable to be put on the spot. Tinubu came in and has refused to have a single real media chat. You would have thought that with all his "prodemocracy" hype, things would have been smooth, but the opposite seem to be the case. The intriguing part here is the way the two APCs Presidents act like the Nigerian press is full of people with ebola and covid. They abhor the press and detest any contacts, but will be readily available for the international press once they travel. Buhari was out of sort in his interviews, but atleast he showed up sometimes. Tinubu doesn't care. They do not appear for debates during election campaigns, and when they finally arrive at the villa, they rule with press releases. It is as if a nation of almost 300 million human beings is below them. The archaic arrogance is startling. No matter how big a president feels he is, there is a need for him/her to constantly brief the people on the situation of things in the country, regularly too, especially in these trying times. This is not a job to be done by some political turncoats masquerading as "media aids".

APC and their government take Nigerians for granted because they know the average Nigerian is …I don’t want to say what I have in mind.. It’s gross act of impunity that a president hide in Aso Rock and refuse to talk to Nigerians |

Anything the evil part touches never stays the same. Funny enough, they're more obsessed with US debates than anyone else. |

Tinubu knows he's failing big-league (in the words of Trump), so he's ashamed to host any media chat or interview. |

Engaging Nigerians in Presidential Media Chats is a good way to build transparency & confidence in Leadership. This is a minus for Tinubu's Govt. |

Jonathan didn't conducpresidebtial media chat. The whole thing ended with Obasanjo tenure. Don't lie about history. Though not justfying the timid attitude of the presidency towards it's people on critical issues that beg for answer. How much should Nigerians be prepared to buy fuel What's happening to the PH refinery and other refineries where Nigerians money were pumped and we were promised it will start working on August. What happened to the budgetary reform you promised as same old template of repeating with increasing figure in the budget? Where is the agric board you promised would be offtakers of agricultural products to increase farmers output Where are the food your government have cultivated for the past one year, abi your harvesting period have no date? Nigerians demands answers to these pertinents questions as the patience of reasonable citizens is gradually weaning |

Ttalk:Are you not the one mutilating history here? Jonathan had regular media chats.. Check on YouTube. I mean regularly. He was never shy of the press. You remember his statement that "stealing is not corruption", that was misinterpreted and misrepresented by the mercenary Lagos press? it was a statement made by Jonathan in one of his media chats. |
