Dangote Refinery playing emotional blackmail, Nigerians swallowing it – Financial expert

Financial analyst, Tosin Adeoti has accused Aliko Dangote, the Group Chairman of Dangote Refinery, of playing emotional blackmail.

The statement comes after Dangote Refinery said that it will be forced to export 95-97 percent of its Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) because of low patronage by marketers in Nigeria.

According to the Vice President, Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, Edwin Devakumar, the only 3 to 5 percent of petrol marketers were willing to buy its petrol.

However, the financial expert alleged Aliko’s strategy has been to cry to Nigerians about some cabals sabotaging his Dangote Refinery so that bans can be enacted just like with his other products.

Adeoti said he should tell Nigerians the price of his Dangote Refinery’s petrol so that marketers can compare it with imported fuel which stands at the landing cost of N1,117/litre.

In a post on his Facebook page on Friday, the financial expert suggested that marketers won’t refuse to buy from Dangote Refinery when it’s selling a cheaper product, adding that it doesn’t makes business sense.

The post read: “Alhaji is playing this emotional blackmail thing and Nigerians are just swallowing it.

“These marketers have written to the president that they have lots of old stock that they bought at higher prices they need to import and sell. So, they ask why they are been forced to exclusively buy from Dangote.

“If you’re selling a cheaper product that makes business sense, how will marketers refuse to buy from you?

“Landing cost of imported fuel is N1117/litre. Let Dangote tell us his own price of petrol and let’s compare. What is he afraid of?

“And even if they refuse, for whatever reason, why not open your own stations, or go into partnership with major petrol stations and sell to the people directly?

“Importation is the only competition Dangote has to improve efficiency.

“But no, the one and only strategy is to cry to Nigerians about some cabals sabotaging the refinery so that bans can be enacted like we have with his other products.

“Nigerians will kuku believe anything if you couch it in patriotic terms even if it’s not in their best interests.”

Judging by the recent statements from IPMAN and NNPC, its obvious that Dangote is playing an Hanky-Panky game of setting everybody up against each other, while using the emotional blackmailing tactics to win the masses to his side and still use their sympathy to fix PMS at a high price

The analysts should also analyze what the price of petrol was when the news of Dangote refinery completion was announced.

Forget all this long talk,Alhaji Dangote isn't blackmailing anyone.
NNPCL set it self up for this madness by refusing to make the Refineries functional.
Another issue is the backlog of tickets they have collected from retailers,whether we believe it or not, NNPCL is in a terrible quagmire,they have collected money upfront from marketers and they can't meet up, neither can they refund the money back to the marketers.
That's what the Great Fela called Confusion break bone,they must continue to import and also collect subsidy.
My advice for Alhaji Dangote is to go the whole hog and destroy the NNPCL.
He must reduce the requirements for independent marketers to register to lift fuel in his Refinery,he must also as a matter of urgency,set up the process of selling his fuel Directly to Nigerians.
Nigerian are very ruthless and he must also meet the cabal ruthlessness for ruthlessness, otherwise the Malta Cabal will.never allow his Refinery function.

I totally agree with you.

I knew Dangote was playing the emotional game when he presented his transparent petrol in a bottle because every petrol is actually transparent at the time of refining but was dyed to give it that colour. Dye and odour are usually added to most liquids that come out looking like water. this is done to prevent humans from accidentally swallowing the dangerous fluids.

Petrol from Dangote refinery must be dyed as that is an international regulation and there is no amount of emotional blackmail that will exempt him from dying his own petrol too.

The fact that we have a refinery in our land over ride anything. Until NNPC can show one refinery that works in this country we are behind him. The man still needs to calculate the cost of all this.

There should be no ban on importation of fuel like it was done to cement and rice

People seem to forget that the refinery is a private one so the owner gets to choose what to do with his company product as long as he is acting within regulation.

Imagine marketers that are having a problem with falling prices. Where on earth does that happen? Cos they are not marketers but exploiters. Cos if u are a marketer, then the market should determine your price.

This same man had been selling diesel and jet A1 from his refinery for months now we didn't hear this story,why because diesel and aviation fuel has been deregulated,he want to start selling petrol now we dey hear all manner of stories because petrol is being subsidized and they want the subsidy scam to continue.the same NNPCL who have been opaque and not transparent to Nigerians all the years they have been importing fuel,now playing all manner of games because the local refinery doesn't belong to them and every kobo of sale and refined products can be accounted for,hence the tricks and corrupt practices will be exposed and buried by Dangote refinery.
Does common sense not tell us why NNPCL choose to continue to import petrol for over 30yrs and having spent over 20 billion dollars for turn around maintenance yet no refined product coming out of the government refinery?
And besides why do u think NNPCL want to have a permanent office stationed inside DANGOTE REFINERY?

NNPC the nightmare of Nigeria

After reading all the post on this thread, I’m made to believe that we don’t really know what’s happening in this country.

Forget the monopoly and government support enjoyed by Dangote over the years. The problem we are faced with right now is how the present government wants to keep generating revenue from petroleum sales to its citizens.

We all deduced that PMS ought to be cheap if produced locally. Everyone is fighting to make sure the price is pushed as high as possible to keep the revenue coming.

For me, the government is the one blackmailing Dangote. Why would NNPCL want to be the sole distributor of a locally produced PMS? Just to keep the price bondage going.

Dangote said NNPCL will fix price. That tells a lot.

Let’s keep pretending like the people we have in the helms of affairs actually have the interest of the masses at heart.

We claim to be so intelligent, but we are often deceived by unintelligent lies.

Fuel supply should be improving but it appears it's going from bad to worse
