Indonesia Frees Emmanuel Ihejirika Sentenced To Death For Drug Trafficking by Newlymarried(op): 4:43am On Sep 14, 2024
A Nigerian man, Emmanuel Ihejirika, who was previously sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking, has been released after several years in prison.

His freedom was announced by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), in a statement delivered by the commission's spokesperson, Gabriel Odu, on Friday, September 13.

Ihejirika’s release was achieved through the pro bono efforts of Emmanuel Isha Ogebe, a Nigerian lawyer based in Washington, D.C.

Years ago, a Nigerian delegation led by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Ojo Madueke, along with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, then a member of the House of Representatives, and former Chairman of the NDLEA, Mr. Ipinmosho, had visited Indonesian prisons to plead for clemency for 21 Nigerians convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death. Unfortunately, four of the convicts were executed, alongside Indonesian and British citizens.

Mr. Ogebe, who had approached Dabiri-Erewa for her intervention, believed that Ihejirika’s case involved mistaken identity and offered his pro bono legal services. He pursued the case to Indonesia’s Supreme Court, ultimately securing Ihejirika’s release.

Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the severe penalties for drug trafficking in Indonesia, urging Nigerians to steer clear of crime. She also praised the Nigerian Charge D’Affaires in Indonesia, Ms. Patricia Alechenu, for her steadfast support throughout the process.

My brethren have refused to learn and relearn concerning illegal drugs business in SE Asia.
They keep forgetting that Indonesia has the harshest anti drugs laws on earth, and never spares any drug trafficker caught by her legal arm.
The punishment is execution by firing squad or lethal injection.
Indonesia has executed thousands of Nigerians caught in the drug business and still going, but my money conscious foolish brothers will never count their teeth with their tongues.

Now, I won't be surprised if na willful ignorance on her own part allowed the innocent man suffer this much to the point of a legal practitioner doing the job a Govt Diasporan agency and their lawyers supposed do!

80% of deaths metted out to Nigerians are as a result of ignorance, derelict of duty or wilfully negligence.

Kudos to the lawyer. I like winners!
She's trying to insert her dubious self into the middle of the whole story, just to extract as much praise as she can. The lady is unbelievable.
Just as you said, the lack of effective diplomatic representation has led to the imprisonment and deaths of many Nigerians abroad.

Many other countries would go the extra lenght to make sure that their citizens are not jailed wrongly and are educated about the dangers of illicit business, but over here, Abike and her couturier of petty minded colleagues are busy playing tribal politics with their jobs.

Look at those two F00001$ above me saying a lot of Nigerians who get sentenced by death for carrying drugs is a case of mistaken identity that Abike they love to hate is the reason most of them are dead is sheer stupidity.

you guys know who runs the drug business, if Dora Akunyili was a Yoruba woman your people would’ve said she’s persecuting igbos when it’s evident you guys are running the drug game .
This country is best suited for a regional government no tribe likes to get punished by another ethnic group unless it’s within their tribe that’s when they can take it in good faith.

So nigga was innocent then. We thank God. Dabiri will use him to shine now like she is doing something for all Nigerians since he is now proclaimed innocent but before, he would be part of her bigotry statistics.

She just wants to attach herself to the news to appear neutral and avoid being seen as an ethnic bigot, following the backlash she received after the Canadian woman's case.

All credit goes to the US lawyer.

We can't be fooled.

Why are you folks never grateful for anything? At least you can read from the report that she was part of a delegation to Indonesia to plead on behalf of the convicts.
Some of you are just so blinded by hate so much that you can no longer think rationally.

Grateful to who?
You are just frustrated that everyone else are not bowing as willing serfs before the feet of your tribal tin gods in power. Grateful to who really?
Grateful to the government for struggling to do the most basic of their jobs? Or for the lawyer that provided his services free of charge? Grateful to your utterly useless and totally ineffective agbadorian government that doesn't know their left from their right?
Who should we be grateful to?

She was a member of the house of representatives when she went to Indonesia to plead on behalf of your brothers on the death row in that country.
This was long before Obi lost an election, this was long before Tinubu became president.
Who was my 'tribal gods' in power during this time when she was trying to save your brothers from the hangman?
She got one out eventually but rather than be happy about it your innate hatred for her would not allow you to be thankful.

Few days ago she claimed Kingsley the yoruba guy in Austria that threatened Yorubas will kill Igbos and Igbo children apologized, the reason she didn't go after him like he did to Amaka in Canada.

When she goes to plead for your brothers being slaughtered in Saudi Arabia for their drug runs during all sorts of amorphous hajj, why doesn't that attract the media ruckus going on here?

How many times has the lady in question tried to pitch ethnic narratives around crimes committed by Nigerians who are running away from the hell hole created by governments she has been part and parcel of? Why should i rain thanks on her? Is she not a government official that is paid handsomely for her job?

So why should i dobale to her for playing an insignificant role in rescuing one citizen out of dozens that her government should have rescued, if they know how to do their jobs? Again i ask you; why are there no media frenzy when your brothers are rescued from their dangerous escapades abroad? Or are you going to claim not to commit crimes too??
