A simple trimming would have been okay.

Good for him. Didn't he undergo counseling in that church before the wedding?

Usually, the church will tell you what is welcome and what is not. He probably ignored the guidelines or rules given to him.

Whatever though, congratulations to him. He can continue to nourish and grow back his beard now, if that's ok for him.
